Its a long time until December

That is awesome.

I’m glad you mentioned it. I have a little velcro tab for my radio plug on the side of the helmet and just bought a RaceTech seat.

I’ll have to correct that situation prior to use.

Indeed, I can just picture Chi bouncing from side to side, trying not to get vertigo thru T12 at high speed.

Speaking of the J.D. Special’s containment seat…I was a test driver too. No velcro, but even on the straights I found the right side bolster kept getting in the way of my helmet.

So, either Kelly’s seat is crooked, or I’ve been driving my whole life with that Richard Petty ‘lean’ – I’m inclined to blame his seat. Never did get real used to it.

OK, I’m way out of the loop. M3Ashley is…who, and the story on her is…what? Somebody fill me in offline tomorrow!

M3Bill, a chewed up rod bearing is not the end of the motor. Mine went in Feb, I replaced the bearings and pump then and drove it all season with no ill effects.

There’s a lot to be said for self-wrenching. Cost me a small amount of money and an evening of my time. Ranger apparently spent enough to buy 50% of a new motor, so YMMV.

Geeger laid out your options pretty well. Depends on your risk tolerance, hassle tolerance, and amount of money you’re willing to spend right now. If you fix the bearings, there’s no guarantees you won’t bust a rocker or something right after, and you start to feel like you’re throwing money down a rathole.

Same thing with a junk motor.

Or, you could go the IndyJim/RacerX/Craig-the-cheater mode and spend the dough, get the go, and stop worrying about it. But, any of those options can easily have you back in the saddle by December, if you want.

Holy shit. You married “but honey it’s been a whole month” guys are giving Bill shit for (improbably) getting track action and Lea wanders across the thread? If the Internet could bruise, Bill would be laying on the floor bleeding.
* just a quick chuckle and you guys can go back to the original programming.

I had a chance to drive the John Deere Special as a test driver last weekend. I have a small velcro pads on sides of my helmet where I stick the H&N device quick release cable.

So I get in to Kelly’s car and get all settled in. Take it out from the pit and on T1, my head leans to left and the velcro pad gets stuck on the Racetech seat with a huge side head protection.

So I am making the turn and trying to pull my helmet off the seat. And when I do, the helmet swings to the other side and gets stuck on that side.

So for the whole session, I am fighting to keep my head in the middle and not to get stuck on the two giant claws waiting to grab my helmet. You have to remember there was only about 2-3" of clearance on either sides.

That was interesting.

 • ok, back to the original thread. Sorry for the detour.
Chi, this is why you stick 1 of those velcro pads in the center at the chin bar! Do you have an open face helmet? Tom and I are sitting here rolling on the floor thinking about that situation!

Too funny!

yea, well I thought I’ll be different and stick the pads on the sides of my helmet.

It’s not easy trying to pull your helmet off the seat while fighting the g-force. You have to use enough force to pull it off but not too strong to swing it to the other side.

And sometimes your head gets stuck in an odd angle and for a moment your brain goes “whoa which turn is this? I’ve never seen it before.”

That’s when you have the zen moment of realizing “so that’s what they mean by looking it from the outside of the box - use a velcro to stick you head to the seat.”

Chuck… Just an idea, but maybe you don’t realize you lean to the right. After all your body probably made an adjustment after sitting for ten minutes or so on the passenger door last year.

As for Chi, I think you should take it a step further and construct a velcro driving suit to go with the helmet. That way once you get into position (if you can), you’re in place for good. Maybe forego the arms/elbows as it would be pretty embarassing to not turn because you arms were stuck to the seat.

Test drivers #1 & #3 (Jack & Lea) didn’t seem to have any seating position, orientation, or sticking helmes so I have to go with operator error on this one guys.

Thanks again for helping test the car…

Now there’s an idea. And if you used really good velcro you could dispense with those pesky harnesses. But then, it might take a wrecker to pull you out of the seat…

Damn Chi, you’re turning out to be funny as hell. I can totally imagine what you described.

I’m in, but running TT. The last step before I go wheel to wheel with you guys next year. That’s if I can afford to finish the car this winter:unsure: no worries yet!!!

Looking forward to racing with you guys, and I am sure I will be ahead of teddyM3 every race!!!

Maybe slightly off topic (?), but just want to say thanks to Chuck, Kelly and Scott. We met at the Peachtree BMW event and now I have my wife’s full blessing and support to join you ‘decent boys’ in Spece30. Looking for a car in earnest now. See you in December

I hope you don’t expect the rest of us to uphold the high standards of these “decent boys” :S

But something tells me the rest of us are going to be slightly better behaved at Road Atlanta

Looking forward to meeting you then
