Ireland front swaybars noisy?

#1

Anyone (else) got really annoying noises coming from their Ireland front bar? Is there a specific way to lube them to reduce the noise? TIA.

On my street car, I have their big bars, the 25/22, and they squeek a lot. Once I put some WD40 on them, and it stopped it temporarily, once it evaporated it was back. I would love to know of something that would stop the noise. Peace.

What you need is often referred to as "monkey snot". Not sure of the actual industry name.

Its a very thick non-petroleum grease like substance that feels alot like thick glue. Any swaybar supplier should have some. It usually comes in a small tube or pack (kinda like a ketsup pack)

All you need to do is get some of the monkey snot into the inside of the bushing. You’ll probably have to take the bar off to get to the bushings. But that’ll fix it.

I would call IE and see if they can send you a pack.

The monkey snot that came with my rear IE sway bar is labeled as plan ole silcone dielectric grease.

The stuff that came with the subframe bushings looks more like copper antiseize though.

This being allergy season, monkey snot should be easy to find…

When I put Racing Dynamics sways on my e36 M3, I think the instructions said to apply non-molibdium (sp?!) grease to the bushings. I found this in a margarine-sized tub at Advance.

Get some copper impregnated antiseeze locally. This should stay put longer than snot. I have used snot too. Eventually urethane will break in and be quiet though, it does wear over time just like rubber just slower.

Root cause is metal movement on the urethane. Moves the bar excesively in the urethane mounts and it squeaks, this is why Powerflex tries to make so many of thier bushings with a sleeve and two peice. Email me and I will send you some of the Powerflex grease if you can’t find the antiseeze locally. It works great to keep those urethane bushings quiet. Or ignore it and save me the stamp. :woohoo:

A quick word of thanks to everyone who replied… thanks!

In the past I’ve used the white linthium spray stuff. Never had any negative effects, it’s easy, etc… I’d just loosen the caps open the bushing a little and spray the hell out of it.

Wrap the swaybar with teflon tape. Lube teh bushing and teflon tape with never seize. The combinaiton will not make any noise and will be good for thousands of miles. Wrap the tape using a 50% overlap. The resultant layers will help hold the never seize where it needs to be.
