Great weekend that was more than worth the tow up, or in Frank Reed’s case drive up. It was highlighted by finally getting to race with NorCal, great weather and being part of a record field. I really have work to do after seeing how quick NorCal is running. The 27 car standing start Sunday was awesome.

I want to especially thank Scott and Walter for the welcome. We can only aspire to pattern the SoCal group to mimic what has been built in NorCal, especially the lunches. Really great to hear the universal desire to get everyone running as close together as possible.

Great to be there for Dave Reed’s rookie race, he done us proud. The nerves disappeared very quickly and turned into unbridled race fever. Can’t wait to get him to Buttonwillow, but I think we created a monster.

Seth and John (MidnightOil Motors) were very supportive and it was amazing to see Seth always jumping in when someone needed help. John as usual was giving us pointers and talking us through turn by turn.

Also a big thank you to Kevin for the Edna Valley prizes that both Dave Reed and I were awarded Saturday and Sunday. Should I open it or put it with the trophies?

We’ll be back, and please plan to come to Buttonwillow when schedules allow.

Chris

27 racers each day and only 1 racers posts a video…are you kidding me!? Give it up boys! At VIR they had 6 racers and at least four guys posted including Grace(Juice Boy) an James Clay. They are not afraid! Come on you NorCal Lazy bums, get your video posted. There are weeks before the next race and you can’t just sit around and watch my video, it just ain’t that good! Now get to the video, download it to your computer and put it on the NET!!! Maybe I can help you after I watch it.

I am pissed, I am sitting around with nothing to do but watch the guys at VIR and I don’t even know their track.

MyLaps are official results.

Posting videos, most SE30 folks are using Vimeo from what I can tell.

SpecE30 has it’s own group at:

http://www.vimeo.com/groups/spece30/videos

Editing video…not sure if there is a website where you can edit your video on…I think everyone edits and produces thier videos on thier computers then uploads the finished product to a video hosting site. At least that’s what I do.

Cheers,
Scott

Kevin, what camera do you use. It’s god good video and sound. I’ve used Gopro and a Sony and both make crappy video’s.

Now that you know the track you should come out here and race! Rent from the Drive-Gear.com guys. VIR is phenomenal, we’ll be there in March, July, and October.

Brad I normally use the Contour HD. for the last race at Infineon I was in the STR #48 and using their Chase Cam. So depending on which video you are looking at it is one of those two cameras. I like the sound set up on Tony and Seans Chase cam, but I like the video better on the Contour HD.

I’d post mine but they are boring and slow!

Great job Kevin…you were fast out of the box for the start of the season. Fun race to watch you and Steve do battle.

Rookie Bryan “Lightning” McQueen posted his videos. Decent picture quality and the audio is good too! I like the sound of his engine…no wind noise either. Lightning did well his Rookie race. He got caught asleep at the wheel in Sunday’s standing start…BUT his slow start gives a great view of the huge field of SE30s headed up to Turn 2!

Trying to get more video, but my old camera shoots in the most bizarre format imaginable, and the MaxQ system I had was particularly poor at handling standing starts. And my GoPro got stolen. I have more excuses if you’d like as well. Actually, Loren has some video of me nearly wiping out early in Saturday’s race, I’ll post it if I can get a copy from him at some point.

I’m going to try to get something new for next time out as well, hopefully will handle in car better and have some reasonable sound input.

YouTube’s 10 minute video limitation is a pain, so Vimeo is a nice alternative. I mostly just use Windows Movie Maker for titles and basic editing, for data overlays I have a 5+ year old copy of Adobe Premier I use.

Thanks Scoot, you beat me to it!

It’s the same link, but I’ll re post here with my words, which include the all important excuses. I had a great weekend, and can’t wait for the next race.

McQueen Racing Spec E30 Race 2
Infineon Raceway
Sunday FEB 13, 2011
NASA NorCal - Group A - SE30

Started: 13th of 26
Finished: 13th of 26

Race 3 of 4 on my provisional license - Check!

I felt good about my qualifying position, putting me up with some of the veterans for the start. Then I immediately lost 9 spots when I couldn’t get it into second gear after the green flag dropped! I finally shifted into third and lugged it up towards turn two before getting into the thick of it. I was having a problem with second gear the whole weekend and had to modify my approach in turn 11 as well.

All went well though, I had a great time gaining back my lost positions for the following 25 minutes, and got one more clean race out of the way for my provisional.

Nice driving Lightning. Way to jump the start on Sunday…oh wait that was last year!

Ok you have seen both extremes of the start now, so I am sure next month will be perrrfecccttt.

We have all been there, trying to get it into second gear. But Sean’s personal life is not something we typically talk about here…anywho, nice driving getting yourself back to 13th and very clean, even without a 2nd gear!

I know you will be running at the pointy end quite soon!

Kevin,

Ive been meaning to give you some shit. It must be nice being able to just sit around with nothing to do and play with videos. Most of us are working on our race cars every other night. Maybe we can send all of our race video’s to you, and you can make a complete video of the race weekend like the WTC on Speedvision  That would actually be pretty cool.
Wonder what someone would charge to do that. Maybe we should talk to Ali in the USTCC.

OK I just finished working on my #92 car for the night. Time to go home.

Brad

No Thanks Brad I don’t need any.

Actually I would be happy to compile a yearend video with everyones highlights from videos and pictures put to music. If everyone gets me pictures and videos I will do it.

PLease know I am sympathetic to your incredibly tight work schedule. Please save all that night work on your car until the last three nights before the race weekend, then simply work 24 hr for three days prior to the race and then race! It might give the rest of us a chance if you are a little tired.

I would say I am excited to see your new car except that is just going to push me back one more position on the grid!

Cheers
