Infineon 3-20/3-21-2010 Race Thank-You

#1

I just wanted to say Thank-you to everyone that was at the race this weekend. We had great weather and great racing. This season after four races we have had four different winners:

  1. Scott Clough
  2. Gary Rieger
  3. Steve Ferrario
  4. Tony Zwain

This has been and will continue to be a really competetive year with a bunch of great people!
Thanks again to our fearless leader Scott Neville for all of his hard work that he puts into making our race weekends great.
Oh and to all of our NorCal series sponsors, Thanks!

Nice work everyone! Wish we could have competed but a greasy friction plate kept us off of the track despite our hardest efforts to get the car on-track in 4 days. We’ll be in for April for sure!!!

As usual I had a blast last weekend, thanks to our leader and all racers that make it interesting out on the track!! Here is a short look at my round and round, it’s only 5 minutes so watch the whole thing…

Hey Everyone,

Another great weekend of racing. 17 SE30 starters on Saturday and 15 on Sunday. Plus a new track record for SE30 (and it wasn’t you-know-who with the initials D.E.!) We were not incident free but all-in-all body contact was kept to a minimum within our class and everyone came home safe. We did have a significant incident with an out-of-class GTS car that was late to pregrid and tried to workthrough our standing start on Sunday. The GTS car collected the B&W Racing #68 SE30 just before Turn 1. The offending driver was suspended from racing in NASA until next season. Pretty serious stuff and we’re glad that Jim Bucha walked away unhurt. The #68 car will be with us at Thunderhill according to Dean Walker the other half of B&W Racing. Jim and Dean…if you need any help getting your carput back together there are lots of NorCal SE30 folks, myself included, willing to lend a hand. Let us know!

The Evil Genius Hard Charger $100 Cash Award for NorCal SpecE30 went to Kevin Nichols of Team Roadrunner Racing. Kevin earned the award with his performance over the weekend capturing Saturday’s pole in an 17-car field and finishing in 2nd place only 3 seconds behind the winner Steve Ferrario (the 2009 SE30 National Runner up Champion). Kevin qualified 7th on Sunday in a 15-car field with a personal best time of 1:58.284 nearly 2 seconds faster than his previous outing at Infineon in February 2010. He maintained his qualifying position and finished 7th in Sunday’s race, (and finishing 6th I take full responsibility for that…great racing with you Kevin!). Kevin is one of NorCal SpecE30’s best ambassadors and his company, Nichols Wealth Management, is a NorCal SpecE30 contributor. Congratulations Kevin!

–The fine Central Coast wine, donated by Nichols Wealth Management, went to the driver on Saturday who had the best gain between qualifying position and finishing position. That bottle went to Greg Peterson (17th to 9th). For Sunday a random finishing position draw (9th place) had Bennett McMicking taking home the second bottle of wine. Thank you Kevin for donating the wine…it’s a nice treat and fun contingincy.

–The AIM Tire $100 gift certificate went the driver or team finishing in 13th position in Sunday’s race. The recipient of the AIM tire award was Derek Welch. Congrats to Derek and a big thanks to Ron Cortez owner of AIM tire.

We had some fast lap times set this weekend. National SE30 tracks race laps times and the new Infineon track record goes to Steve Ferrario with a 1:57.641 clocked in Sunday’s race. The fastest lap of the weekend was set during Sunday’s qualifying by Tony Zwain: (1:57.329), nice work Tony!

Sounds like a good time. It sucks that I missed it.

I’ll be back for THill, possibly in a coupe.

Hi Guys,

I would like to thank everybody that super sized into PTE. You guys made a great addition to PTE. If the schedule allows we would love to see you guys come back for more. Thanks again for getting me the classification forms. They are good until you make a change to the car. Then I would need an updated one. Thanks again. Have a great season!

Eric

Hi Eric,
I still owe you one of those classification forms…Sorry, my plate was a bit full running two classes & also having to service my 2nd spec e30 for a customer throughout the weekend. Good fun racing with those crazy miata’s.

#9

I’m buying a SE30 coupe that Bill Arnold had most of the way built. The sedan doors and cage in my car are not ideal for my gorilla sized frame, and I’m hoping the coupe will be a luxurious upgrade.

If it all works out, I should be shaking down the new car at THill, and will have the sedan listed for sale soon.
