IFU2... The Must Attend Race of 2008

#1

You’ve heard about it, read about it and you’ve even had dreams about it.

I’m sure Chuck and Robert will be posting about it soon. But I just wanted to get the May 17th date on your calendars.

The IFU2 is without a doubt the race to attend. Whether your Mid Atlantic, Southeast or beyond. As good as the inaugural IFU was—all indications are they are looking to top it.

I think it would be great if we could get a large enough field to have an all Spec E30 run group

Who’s planning to be there?

Roebling Road and an IFU race. What could be better.

Skeen has to give everyone a 5 min. headstart.

May 17th…my birthday, I will post a list of suitable presents, most will have a screw cap.

I will of course be there. Last one was a lot of fun.

Each year I am allowed one and only one instance of “No”.

The “No” must be used with great care for it is exceedingly sensitive and explosive. The wrong approach, a poorly chosen tone or a simple misunderstanding and I am undone. Like a B-movie the walls will run red with arterial spray.

I used my 2008 “No” for the Roebling Race. “Babe, ahhhh …No”.

“Your vacation has to get me back home before 17May”.

That orange rookie plate ahead of you will be mine. Sure, you can intimidate the risk-averse rookie and make the pass. But first you have to catch me. And therein lies the rub.

WTF is IFU?

Inverted Field? At Roebling?

It’s one week after Alex and I will hoist the trophy for top honors at One Lap of America, so maybe I’m stupid enough to come down. Are we swapping ECU’s too?

IFU is a fun/gimmick race that we did last year at Roebling. It was a bonus race, in addition to the points races, held at the end of the day on Saturday. We had the track to ourselves, and we were the only thing keeping everybody else from hitting the beer and BBQ, so of course they watched!

I sponsored the race from Factory 3 Performance, and everybody kicked in a modest entry fee to help offset the track overtime. We ended up inverting the field twice last year – once at the start, based on qualifying times, then again midway through the race.

The 2nd inversion was a closely held secret, and really added a nice twist to the whole deal. It was just an incredibly fun, competitive race.

Anyway, we’ve blocked out the time with NASA to hold IFU-2 at Roebling this spring, (thanks, Jim P!) so we’d like to get a huge SpecE30 field and put on another great show. We haven’t decided exactly what the format is yet, so expect some differences, but we’ll be sure to make it fun.

We’re also trying to twist the arm of the GRM project car builder to bring his machine up and race with us.

Scott from Beertech is going to do a shirt for us, as well. Gonna be a happening!

We don’t have a Hyperfest down in SE yet, but for the SpecE30 crowd, this is the race you don’t want to miss.

And Ranger, those of us who are married know how precious a “No” is, and we’re honored that you’re choosing to spend this precious commodity for the Roebling weekend.

is the IFU race for spec e30’s only or can others come out and play?

That’s gracious, but you’ll feel less honored when that weekend I grab you every hour with:
“Chuck, what about this sound?”
“Chuck, why do my brakes suck?”
“Chuck, my 17mm rolled away again, do you have one I can borrow?”

The IFU race was awesome last year. Skeen and I had a great battle and I hope we can get at least a 30 car field this year. it was really cool to have so many spectators watching as we were the only group on the track. I don’t know how many came up to us after the race commenting on how much they enjoyed watching it. Mid atlantic boys come and join the party.

Fat chance I have an unnatural love for Roebling. Rain + RA = disaster, Roebling + Rain = even more fun

How do we pay for IFU2? The Nasa-southeast website doesn’t show IFU2 on the schedule nor signup/pay page.

Last year we just paid Chuck at the track. I believe he has some other options in mind for this year.

Stay tuned… Chuck should be announcing something before too long.

Now that the Panther is back up, I’ll be there

We are still working out the details, but something tells me that everyone will thoroughly enjoy the IFU-2 B)

more drama in the IFU-2 than on SetupTV
