IE rear sway mounts

#1

Has anyone seen the rear reinforcement plates that come with the IE kit start to bend?

This is just with some normal street driving, and some track time on a buddies car (1 DE).

Is it legal to weld these plates (the little triangle pieces) onto the stock location?

I searched and didn’t see this come up so this may be another issue related to the IE trial and error school of installation.

I’m pretty sure that it is recommended to weld these to the stock mount location. That is what give it strength and added reinforcement. Otherwise they really don’t help.

Since I’m clearly fearless in the dumba$$ question department, here is another.

There are brake lines very close to that location, do those have to be removed typically?

Its not a dumb question but it depends on who is doing the welding and how good they are. You shouldn’t have to remove them. Just be careful not to get too close.

Question #1 Yes, you will need those reinforcements or the tabs will be torn off eventually due to the stiffer bar.

#2, ken is right again

no problem at all re rules with welding the plates. Last year’s rules stated that additional welding was allowed (9.3.8.11 and 12) while this year it was made more generic by just saying that additional reinforcement is allowed. I think they’d be pretty ineffective without welding.
