I motor, e car..wiring ?

#1

Hey Guys

The Travis Wilson Bronze car is finally getting an i motor, the car is an 87 e, the motor an 93 i, yes really 2/93 production e30 convertable motor. Anyway, they both have round plugs, I took the brown ground wire out of the car plug as it lined up with a green/red. Will this thing run just plugging it in. I have a round plug cut out of the 93 and a round plug cut out of an 87 so I can splice the two plugs and use that as an adapter if necessary. I tried to search the forum and could not find any info although I know this has been covered.

Thanks

Al

Al,

That '93 M50 motor should help you keep up with the other Spec E30’s. I just hope you don’t get protested. Maybe you could just keep the hood down and no one will notice.

Good Luck.

The '93 cab was still an E30–M20 motor.

Al, I think you will need all the i motor goodies to make it run, but I’m not sure.

Possum dude, you do realize that because the motor came from a cab, that you’re gonna have to chop the roof off, dontcha?

BTW, I’m still convinced that with a creative paint job and proper use of forced perspective, that you can make an S50 look like an M20… so long as everyone looks at it from one side, 20 feet away…

Seriously, you might want to drop a line to the guys at www.StrictlyEta.net – they should be of some help with the ‘e’ wiring.

Ok folks got the motor in and running, the trick is if you are putting a round plug i motor into an e car with a round plug, you have to pull the one all brown wire out of the car plug. Thanks to Chuck Taylor for the info on smoking the wire. I think that wire serves as a ground for the computer but not sure, we have 2 ground straps for the engine and the computer is bolted down and so far so good.

Good deal Al. Why didn’t you just make the cabby a SE30? I still think that would be a fun one…
