Hyperfest Report

9.3.1.1. Induction System
9.3.1.1.1. Air filter elements may (3.1) be replaced (3.5).
9.3.1.1.2. Stock (3.3) air intake and air box assemblies may (3.1) be replaced (3.5) with aftermarket filter that attaches directly to the airflow sensor housing.
9.3.1.1.3. Heat shielding is permitted around the air intake/air filter assembly.

Reading previous posts I don’t believe you will gain much here, but I have this on my car, and I think it helped a little. Does anyone still have those backing plates for the headlights? mine were long gone when I got my car.

I figured we’d bolt up a combined supercharger and turbocharger and call it ballast or a tow hook or something. (just kidding)

It appears we’ve got a header leak somewhere, the exhaust is of an unknown vintage and the filter could certainly use replacement. Also, it’s idling super rich, fouling plugs every few weeks and in general not running that wonderfully. The engine needs some TLC is all I’m saying, nothing illegal

Don’t use platinum plugs they will just keep fouling. That’s the word on the street.

Yo Osbourne

Where is the video???

For me, the fouling problem at idle was the pressure regulator and damper. While in my 944, the regulator was safely under the hood, on the 325’s it’s under the car and mine was completely rusted. They aren’t expensive, I’d try that first. And yes, don’t use the Platinum plugs.

I got a verbal spanking during my annual tech twice now for not having those, and was told I could be protested if I ever won anything, so I finally got around to putting them back in. Um, the car does not feel slower for having them.

Greg, When I purchased my car, it had a K&N air intake with the headlight backing plate removed. Carter Hunt very kindly pointed out that the K&N air filter intake was allowed but the backing plate could not be removed. The K&N filter assembly without the headlight backing plate removed is actually a disadvantage. Putting the stock air box back on my car actually improved performance.

Al,

It was good! I am back in Mississippi and hope that Shelly can get it from analog to DVD and then maybe I can get someone to post it or at least send you a copy. Some close racing. Just don’t tell anyone we were bump drafting as I don’t want to get any points
OK we just put our Hyperfest report up on the Axis of Oversteer blog. If you want to take a few minutes, you can download my on-board video at the end of the post (right-click, save as).

Go here to see teh write-up: http://axisofoversteer.blogspot.com/

We are trying to build some decent coverage for all forms of motorsport, but naturally we try to give SE30 as much of a plug as possible.
Matt,

Thanks for being my camera man for the weekend. Can I contract you for the next race too? :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree with Matt that the video is worth the time to down load…Very entertaining.

Both of our cars have platinum plugs in them and we’ve never had a problem. The white car has had them in for almost two seasons. However I think we are going to switch them to NGK’s.

Hyperfest was my 1st races ever also. My car is a newly finished project. First one ever for me, too. And no parts fell off!
Quite a diff from DEs. I guess I’ll live with life at the back of the pack for awhile. Passed a few cars in the 2nd race to advance my position some so I’m relatively happy and ready to do more.
I’ll never forget this one. I think I was the first one to happen upon the porsche clash. One was spinning toward me, narrowly missed and I went on thru the cloud of dust not knowing what was in there, missing the other one on its top. Whew!
Thanks to all for accepting this "old newbie" Everyone was great.

I gotta mention this…over on the other side of the track during the drifting, it seems some of the American Iron guys thought it would be fun to take a hot tub over on a trailer…I am pretty laid back but there is no way in hell I would get in a bacteria broth at an event like this. Anyways when I happened upon the hot tub lets just say there was someone pretty big in it, and it looked like they were wearing a gorilla suit.
