HPDE

#1

I have a newbie question about getting started. My car is still in the process of preparation and won’t be ready for the first race or two but if I drive in the HPDE event will I need to have all the items done that would normally need to be done in order to race; i.e. roll cage, harnesses, racing seat, kill switch, coolant catch tank? These are things I haven’t planned on doing until I get licensed to race. I may just have to drive in other events until I get licensed??

I’m not sure I understand your question.
To get your license, you will need to use a fully prepped race car as a large portion of the licensing is on track under race conditions.
For HPDE, street cars are fine provided they have seat belts for both seats and of course pass the safety tech. I am currently using my car in HPDE fully done to Spec except for the roll cage and harness/seat/etc.

Simply put, my question was: "Can I drive any car in the HPDE events?" And you answered it. My car is in similar condition to yours.
Thanks.

Stock cars are good for HPDE, if you begin to modify it for track duty, the mods must comply with Race tech…be careful here and read the HPDE rules carefully. These were updated this year.

Not really.
I took the Driving Concept school with my HPDE car, which is not fully prepped, and other students, even instructors, used their street cars. After you pass the school you can apply for a provisional license. Then you need to pass tech for that particular series you want to race in.
Any street car in good condition is able to run HPDE’s.

just to clarify … you don’t have to do all the mods at once - just that whatever you do has to be to race spec once you start doing them.
cheers,
