HP gain from turning the cooling fan off

#1

I stumbled across a guy that ran the #'s the other day. Assuming a cooling fan pulls ~12A, the math works out to about 1/2 a hp. This assumes the alternator is providing current at 50% efficiency.

Yes, I know this is a pretty useless fact, but to be a geek is to be interested in all sorts of useless facts. That’s why chicks dig geeks.

Makes sense to me. When I switch my fan on my idle immediately drops… I guess it’s time to put an interrupter switch in for those critical passes

#3

Anytime I have a bad qualifying session it is always because I forget to turn off the damn radiator fan.

#4

make it a button and label it “KERS”

#5

Damn it Ed… That could have been my response - Good one “KERS”

Another way to get my 170 hp motor down to 160 hp. w00t.

I’ve got a bit bigger fan and it draws 22a. That might be noticeable if I didn’t make it a practice of turning the fan off as I leave the pits.
