I have an 89 325i trans that is stuck in reverse and I’d like to get it apart to see if its something easy enough to fix or replace before I look for a new one. I have ALLDATA which shows basic information on how it comes apart so I’ve got all the external bolts out and one pin but I cant seem to get the large center bearing to come out even with a puller. I’ve heard that you pretty much have to beat BMW trans apart and back together again but I wondered if anyone knew the best place to start the beating?
How to get Transmission Apart?

Vic hall can probably shed some light on this…he has pics on a site someplace. The link was on the old Yahoo forum someplace I think.

Here are Vic’s trans rebuild pics - but they are for a getrag 265
there might also be some useful stuff here:

Thanks for filling in for me guys! I’ve been away for ugh work *ugh…
Yeah, my gallery is for an M3 tranny which doesnt’ have the massive bellhousing attached. I followed the factory repair manual for my de-construction. I think I have the repair manual for the other E30’s too - shoot me an e-mail and I’ll see if I can e-mail you the pdf of the manual.
FWIW, I dunno how much it’s worth getting into the guts of a 325’s gearbox though - they’re so cheap used that it might be easier to swap for a junkyard one.
