How much is this donor car worth

#1

Hi Guys. I raced two races in 2004 in the Mid Atlantic Region, but I moved to Texas and sold my half of the car to Steve K. I autocrossed a Miata last year, taking second place with SCCA, but I miss the roar of a BMW 6 cylinder engine. I want to sell my Miata autocross car for another E30. Know anyone who may be interested?

I found an 89 325is with a rebuilt motor from Bavarian Auto Exchange in it. Is this a reputable company? The motor has about 80K on it, but the car has 220K. It also has a new radiator, timing belt, muffler, and shifter bushings. The body is straight, and the paint is okay. How much would you spend for this car? Do you know about another car which may be better?

Bavarian is about 4 blocks from me… I think they’re ok. I just bought my spec donor car for $500. decent motor and trans. Personally I would not spend more than that unless the motor is pretty new… I bought a 1988 E30 in great condition for $500, it is a customers Spec donor car.

I’m usually pretty good at finding cheap cars, but 325i’s don’t seem to grow on trees around here. Most decent donors I’m coming across seem to run around $1500 for a car you can drive home.
I’d love to find a running one for $500, but they are about as common as albino alligators in Maine.

I knew you could not stay away for long! Great to see you are still lurking out there.

If you are going to run SpecE30, Bavarian Auto Exchange engines are they are not really legal. They are rebuilt with "MaxSil" pistions which are, according to their web site, "… engineered for better longevity, higher erformance, and improved fuel economy. MaxSilâ„¢ Pistons are lighter and stronger than original BMW pistons with 13% silicone content allowing for tighter cylinder clearance (0.0015")."

I am not sure about how they perform otherwise. I just know I cannot have one
