Hi, I'm Interested in this class - CA Racing?

#21

Doug, I will be at THill on the 11th instructing and running in HPDE4 with my red Mini Cooper S. My e30 will not be ready by then, but it will be by the first event next year. I look forward to connecting at TH. Steve.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the posting. My racing partner Dan DiTrapani and I will definitely be up there on Saturday, and we’ll look you up and will look forward to learning more about NASA and this class!

I was curious about a couple of things that maybe someone could educate me on regarding NASA race weekends and the SpecE30 Class

  • will this class be eligible to race in the Enduro series?

  • on BMWCCA club racing race weekends (which I think is a great bonus to this car) will the class also be racing the regular NASA group race? (ie - more weekend racing time? B)

Anyone here going to the NASA event this weekend at Buttonwillow? I’ll be there with my Miata and hope to see some cool Bimmers. I’ll be running in the HPDE2 group (woo hoo!). :woohoo:

I’ll be there - big black Dodge truck, big red dog, little red bmw.

I checked the entries - looks like 3 KP cars, 1 LP, and 8 JS (total of 12 e30’s), and a total field of 28 bmw’s. 2 of the 3 KP cars are spec cars, as is the LP car, though we’re in prepared class this weekend so we may not be quite to spec (I’m not).

The bmw racers will be pitted on the west side of the paddock. Be sure to stop by.

Actually, the schedule shows that HPDE 1 & 2 will be combined this weekend. My friend will be driving my e30 in HPDE 1 (with me as her instructor) so please don’t hit the little red bmw. At least not on the passenger side.

What color is your miata?

Mike, please be sure to stop by. I’ll be there in a little red bmw too.

Steve has been the pioneer of the class on the west coast so he has a ton of good information.

This will be the first shake down (hopefully not off) of my 325 on the big track.

I spent last month exploring some interesting slip angles at a couple of SCCA autocrosses (Lance, remember the 185x14’s). Finally got some wheels for the R-comp tires.

I’m only down for Saturday in HPDE3. Looking forward to finally getting back to the track after spending so much time getting "acquainted" with the car.

Steve, I think I finally got my arm back to toss the ball for "Murph" (big red dog).

Chris

Steve, Chris,

I’ll look for you guys. I’m driving a white and red Spec Miata in HPDE2. And I promise not to hit any red BMWs.

Okay, I am confused. Are Chris and Mike talking about BW or TH Nov 11?

Buttonwillow, it should be far enough south to be out of the rain, and for me it’s less than 2 hours away:)

I’ll have to remember to bring some tennis balls. Last weekend I forgot to bring any to Willow Springs so I was throwing a spare radiator hose for him to retrieve (he promised not to chew it up).

Glad to hear you’re going to be able to make it - haven’t seen you in a while!

Speaking of sliding around, I’m thinking of bringing a set of 195 Pep Boys M&S tires for Robin (friend driving in HPDE 1) to use in lieu of the 225 hoosiers. Think she’ll notice if I switch 'em on her?

RAIN?!?!?!?!?

RAIN?!?!?!?!?

[/quote]

The weather report says a few showers possible on Saturday. If it does rain I will end up with the 185’s back on, then the fun really begins.
:woohoo:

Yep, 30% chance on Saturday per weather.com. I called the tire shop at the track & was assured they would have plenty of full-tread ra-1’s for anyone needing them.

The rain did come but thanks to Steve for buying the new ra-1’s at the track, he drove the rain away.

I’ll let Steve post the race report. It looked like 3 or 4 KP cars were not too far away from SpecE30 prep.

I was finally able to get the car on a big track and was quite pleased with the suspension package.

After spending all my previous track time with the E30 M3 I was expecting to be disapointed with the handling and braking. Just the opposite. The car exibited a nice nuetral balance and once I bedded in the new HT-10’s the car really came alive.

Now that the season is pretty much over I have enough of a fix to keep me going into 2007. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mike, it was good meeting you and definitely let the Spec Miata go and get going on the SpecE30.

Chris

'Good to hear you had fun with the car.

Keep us East-Coasters up to date your your activities.

Chris,

It was nice meeting you, Steve, and Mike Mills. I had a blast at the track and will be driving in HPDE3 next time.

Steve’s girlfriend did well in his E30. By the second session on Sunday she would have passed me if she had a lap or two more. That car is definately faster than a Miata!

How would you compare the handling, steering, and engine response of your car to an E30 M3?

I just sold the Spec Miata - the car just got shipped to a guy in Dallas, TX. I’ll miss it but i think the E30 is a more suitable car for me.

So now I’m looking for a clean 87-91 BMW 325is. I may check out a couple this weekend in the LA area.

Take care,

Mike

BMW CR west coast season finally. Things are starting to look promising.

Half way down the page.

Looks like fun Steve.
