Help w/ transmission swap

I have swapped a 1989(? - production year 9-1998) getrag tranny into my 87 5spd sedan. Problem is driveshaft appears too short - that can’t be it right? So i looked closer at the transmission output flange - the one from the 89 tranny appears about 1/2" shorter than what’s on the 87 tranny - about the distance the driveshaft is short of bolting the guibo to the output flange. Does this make sense? See pics of the two output flanges. Help!

I believe the drive shafts are different - at least the part numbers are for 87-88 vs. 89-91.

Al Taylor probably has an '89 drive shaft.

Early vs. late cars have different driveshafts.
The center bearing is different too.
