H&N restraints

#1

I’d say I don’t want to sound like a cheap ass, but that is impossible.

What is THE cheapest H&N restraint. I don’t want to wear one, but if I have to I would like a cheapo one.

I saw someone recommended the S3, and saw it was $1,000. Can’t do that.

There’s a variety of solutions around $600. HANS, Safety Solutions (R3 et. al.). Each has high end and also lower cost solutions. Not sure about the Defender.

I was not a huge fan of the H&N restraint early on. But I got a HANS with the gel pads and I am more comfortable wearing it then not. So not only is it safer I am more comfortable as a bonus. So it may not be an overall negative experience. If you go the cheapest possible rout you may sacrifice some comfort. So ask people what they like and get your hands on them before you buy to help make the call on what you want.

I am about to purchase a HANS, but I can’t decide between the two models… of course the more expensive one is lots lighter, and probably after the pain of paying around $300 extra, I think I’d be more satisfied for a long time… but I’m still on the fence.

If the light HANS feels lighter when you’re wearing it…tighten your shoulder straps.

The other difference is the more expensive model comes with the gel pads and that makes it a lot more comfortable. I know a few people with the Sport model and they like my gel pads better. Not sure what they would cost on their own. Probably not $300 but may be worth investigating if you go sport model.

Gel pads are $80 at HMS motorsport. Also, watch nasaforums.com to see if you can snipe a used one for $400-$500.

i’ve been using the defnder for 2 seasons now and love it. highly recommended. apex performance carries it.

That is the wrong approach. Having been in a wreck that exercised my HANS (the tethers were noticeably stretched) I’d say that you should be looking at the ones that you believe offer the best protection, regardless of cost.

I have the HANS sport and am very happy with it. Yes it’s a bit heavier than the pro model (1 lbs?), however, I don’t really notice the weight when on track.

I would agree. $1000 HANS or $250,000 for back/neck surgery? No contest in my book.

I’m flat out not spending that much. If I absolutely must have one for racing, I will buy the cheapest one out there.

Trust me, I’m not excited about wearing one that is uncomfortable. Budget says I can’t spend that much. It’s that simple.

Then look to buy something used and replace the tethers. Not an area you should skimp.

#14

safe racer has hans sport for $550 and def-n-der is the same price from multiple places. it’s the cost of entry fees for one race weekend. if you can afford to race, you can afford an HNR.

Well, I’m happy for now. Found a used R3 contour model on ebay just now and total with shipping was just under $400.
