Easy Al. Here is the clip: http://vimeo.com/31231182
It was cut during my limited editing experience when picking an end point. Video misses his spin but catches his poor entry angle. I spoke with Werner twice and he apologized and related that he was unaware of the two of us coming and racing for position. I was happy to get by without an incident. Comments welcome.
great pumpkin run hightlights

i don’t know werner personally but he had what, four separate loss-of-control incidents that weekend? i personally saw three and heard of at least one other. one of those (in the video) could have been extremely serious had the timing been slightly different. being “unaware” of you and al is not any sort of excuse for re-entering the track that way, even less so when he had probably just passed you within the last lap. this is not a person i am eager to share the track with regardless of what class he’s in.

He is a nightmare with no situational awareness and not even the first clue about how to pass ‘slower’ cars without completely f*cking up their races.
Give me a little more time to think it over and I’ll tell you what I really think.
Is this the same guy that messed up both practice and qualifying on Saturday??
Either way that was a bonehead move for sure. Why would anyone re-enter the track at that angle?? I’m sure Al had a “do farts have chunks in them” moment. Unfortunately shitty driving like this will just continue when the instructor exits the car after one or two DE’s.
Thanks for posting the clip, I understand that the video is your property and you can edit however the hell you want…I appreciate it. Jim told me in uncertain terms that without video he would not address this incident. I am all for trying to nip it before it gets any worse…I approached Werner about the problem with his car after the qualifying session, I related that the next session was a race and that it would be dangerous to run a car that he could not restart after a spin…I really think that he re-entered the way he did because he was on the gas trying to keep it running. He does not have the basic skills to spin his car and keep it running…(HDPE 1 start to spin both feet in) He has never raced with anyone, and I doubt he ever went to comp school. He needs a mentor to help improve but is not the type of guy to ask for or accept help.
Al
No problem Al. I was as unhappy with the re-entry as anyone. It minimally effected our last lap of racing but could have been an ugly wreck if timed slightly later. I was aware of his earlier spins but did not see them to comment. I do not know of any history with this driver since we are new to this run group. As Patton preaches: “know who you are racing”
I was involved in Al’s discussions with Jim and Werner, plus I had already talked with Werner after his T8 spin on the 1st lap of the 1st session of the 1st day (wow, lots of 1sts!) and it became obvious to me that he is not willing to “check” himself, so I think that responsibility falls on NASA management - especially if more than one driver lodges a complaint about it.
I don’t know, maybe its too easy to get a comp license(?) Sort of like a drivers license in the USA.
If you thought his driving on track was scary, you should have seen him wagging his way down I-20 Sunday afternoon with his Tahoe towing an enclosed trailer.
Steve, it was nasty watching him haul to CMP on friday. I just shook my head and decided to stay way back. Of coarse it didn’t take long to be far behind him.
He has raced withus before…not sure how long.
I’ll discuss it with Jim,too.
