Grattan

#1

Just got back from a SCCA Double National at Grattan and the new pavement is awesome. You guys are going to love it. Once small piece of advice: some offline areas are not rubbered in so be sure to try the areas offline in practice before you try any crazy passes in the race or you might end up hitting each other like a couple guys in my race group did.

I’m jealous that Sean will be driving this round instead of me as it’s one of my favorite tracks but I have a SCCA National commitment that weekend at MidOhio.

Lots of lap records were falling this weekend, including one by yours truly in T3, so this will also be your opportunity to set the benchmark going forward.

Congrats on your track record!
Sorry I won’t be able to make it…

#3

Well, now I REALLY want to get out there. You remember what the SSC times were? Curious if my record fell finally.

#4

Nope it’s still there. Start’s kid (Jonathan) was the only SSC car.

Darn T2 cars were holding me up in the race. I did a 1:26.88 in qualifying.

#5

So… what did you guys think?

#6

I thought it was a pretty fun track. Sean and I had ridiculously close racing all week. I think in the end Sean got the track record with a 1:31.6 I ran a 1:31.7

To all the SE30 guys this weekend at Grattan… thanks for welcoming me! Grattan is a blast. Wish it had rained, though.

I had a great time despite the car not running great. Watching video last night… my car is struggling to make power above 5k rpm. It’s definitely not pulling to redline. And the miss… yarrr.

Anyway, can’t wait to get it all sorted out for Mid-Ohio.

Thanks again!

Had a great weekend running with the SpecE30 gang. Cameron and I had close battles in every race, it was some of the best and most fun racing I’ve had. And after the first race, I’m really glad to come home with no damage.

Saturday Video - http://vimeo.com/25079969
– Lots of avoiding other out of control cars and hit by a spec miata

Sunday Race 1 - http://vimeo.com/25098621

Sunday Race 2 - http://vimeo.com/25035732
– Battle with Cameron, chasing him to the finish.

A win, 2 seconds and a track record is not bad for a weekend.

Thanks again to Michael and his family/friends for providing tasty lunches both days.

starting you directly behind a large group of miatas is a rather cruel joke

It’s really bad we were passing half the pack by the end of the front straight. Also here is a photo gallery that have pictures of all the SE30 guys from that weekend. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kate-moss/sets/72157626837943513/with/5833219173/

Sounds like you guys had some good racing! Sorry I missed it!

Cameron, how’s the new suspension working out? I’m worried it might be working TOO well now!!

Sean, great heads-up driving on that first lap!

Glad there was a decent turnout at Grattan and you all had a good time. I would have been there (I had planned on it), but I had the great pleasure of removing the blown engine from my tow vehicle. :frowning:

12:55 what happened with the passing under yellow?

#14

Anthony- The car seems to be working really well, I appreciate the suspension help!. I’m hoping I can keep up at Mid-Ohio now. I still need some work there.

Jeremy- NASA either didn’t call it, or decided it wasn’t. Sean and I talked it out after the race. Sean got held up out of the corner and I had a huge run going. We inadvertently drag raced to the yellow as I didn’t see it due to the blend line and trying not to hit Sean. It was kind of a grey area since we can’t see where we were compared to the flag all that well. Sean was really cool about it and decided to leave it if NASA didn’t call it for whatever reason, and I need to be more careful with the flags.

Cameron, tell Kate those are some great pictures!

#16

She said thank you. She is going to put some more up here in a second.

#17

Those are awesome pics! I’m in the process of creating a SpecE30_Share on DropBox. I’ll send Kate that info shortly. As I get email addresses, I can send you all access info. This way we can share video, pics, etc. You get a little over 2Gb of space for free. That should be sufficient.

Hey guys, it’s Kate.

Glad you enjoyed the photos! I got the link for the dropbox and added a bunch of photos, i’m pretty sure i did everything right. Just let me know if they are not showing up. Those are the pictures taken from qualifying on saturday (my camera died before the race) and a mix of everything from Sunday.

Enjoy!
