gauge sender block?

#1

Guys, Where can I buy a sender block to "T" the original oil sender location into a dual OP/OT sender setup? Tried e-gauges, BMP, BW, TMS and a few others without luck.

Thanks,

see if these guys can hel you http://www.bimmer.net/

I never used them but heard people recommend them.

Might be easier set-up if you have a sender that has two outputs - one for ‘idiot’ light and another for the gauge. (mine is made by VDO - can’t find it now otherwise would give you P/N)

Thanks for the tip Igor. It look slike they sell the block with one of their E36 kits, and are taking pre-orders for an E30 kit if anyone is interested in checking them out. I couldn’t find the block on its own, but hit them with an email on both the block and E30 kit ETA.

I used the one made by www.leatherz.com

I used parts from BMP, they have an oil pressure sending unit which has two outputs, one for your original dash light and the second one for the new gauges. It is lolcated at:

Part 31811:

It does require an adaptor to fit into the orignal sending unit’s location near the oil filter.

They work well together… I used both of these, the temp sender integrated into the drain plug and VDO gauges. Works great.

Kelly,

I haven’t finished the install of my VDO OP gauge yet, but I bought the gauge and the sending unit from BMP. The sending unit is a fat, silver cylinder, kind of like an oversize "D" battery. When I was under the car, it looked like the OEM sending unit is on the passenger side on the underside of the engine and could be unscrewed with a rather large socket (like 22+mm), but I couldn’t see how the sending unit would fit in there. So, I guess this is my answer: the adapter from BMP?

Thanks,
Sasha

this message from the CR list may only be somewhat related, but I thought it might be helpful
Those who want to add an oil temp sensor to the oil pan, I have a fitting that requires no modification to the pan. I have taken a oil level sensor and modified it to take a bulb type oil temp sender and mount in the oil pan. The threads are 1/2" pipe and I used it with an Autometer gauge in my race car. $45.00 shipped CONUS. Chuck (cwbaader@charter.net)
Thanks all, some good ideas here but that Leatherz unit is poifect - thanks Dan.

I want to avoid having a wire running off the oil drain plug - just don’t want something that could get hooked or whatever. Not sure the (dis)advantage of reading temp in the pan vs. the block, but I like running one set of wires from the block to the interior - just cleaner that way.

Yep… the adaptor piece goes into the original slot and the new sending unit attaches to it. I don’t have my digital camera at home this week (It’s in Alaska with friends), but I’ll try to get a piture tomorrow with my phone.
