I think this poorly kept secret has been out there for awhile, but made official today.

Pick up the donor car on Friday. Now you know why the garage sale, etc.

Unfortunately we have to build the car first and its only for the lowly ST class, but you have to start somewhere I guess.

Follow along at http://dtomracing.com or ‘friend’ us on FaceBook dtomracing

Thanks!

NICE car. Have fun with it!

Ghey

Picked up the donor on Friday. Did a quick lap around my ‘test track’ aka outside my subdivision. Verdict - cars have really made progress in the last 20 years…

#14

Wow. That’s a race car donor? You are clearly leaving the POS e30 world.

#15

Progress in what regard?

Can’t wait to see you’se guys pull off the electronic steering wheel lock controller (or some kinda goofy steering interlock).
Seriously, let me know about those take off parts 'cause David Cullen’s e90 is locked up now and he’s complaining about the price to fix.

Actually, when you figure that out, can you help me unlock/open the rear door on my e30?

Havin’ fun.

Yeah beat up 4 year old cars are a little thin on the ground.

We bought this from a wholesale auction via a semi-ex club racer Gerald Potts - http://www.myriadmotorsports.vpweb.com/

Believe it or not this was described as “average” condition. It has a few stone chips and needs a set of tires and some brake pads but that is about it.

Its nicer than any other car I own, and probably ‘as nice’ as any of Craig’s.

If you’re looking for a specific car, or want to save a few bucks / dealer hassle check out Gerald. This was about as simple a process as you could make it. And looking at auctions gives you a lot of options since we were looking for a pretty specific car that would have meant a lot of one off trips to dealers to find.

Anyway we’ll tear it all apart probably in 2 weeks. It has to go down to the unibody for media blasting then off to BimmerWorld for the cage.

Jim, I can’t tell if its a 325, 28 or 30. What is it?

#18

2006 330i we looking for a stripper (cymbal crash) as in base model but ended up with (we think anyway neither Craig nor I are current BMW experts) a Sport Package which means more stuff to sell.

Patton - just about any non-essential piece on this car is for sale. We also have the Bentley (which is suprisingly much more complete than the one for the E30) and a dealer TIS disk. So we can probably figure anything out - theoretically. And by ‘we’ I mean Brendan / Ted or Jason.

In other words “We can fix it, my dad has an awesome set of tools”

Jimmy, something you may want to consider before you start tearing that car down. My daughter has a silver 2002 330i four door. It is an automatic that would need to be converted to a manual shift, but this may save you a little money if you wanted to trade cars.

Unfortunately it has to be this specific model for reasons of rule compliance and eventual (again theoretical) competition.

The e46 cars are out of eligibility at the end of this year, so has to be e90. We looked at automatics but as Patton points out there are all sorts of electrical doodads and gremlins that lie in wait so adding a auto / manual swap to the equation we just another layer of complexity.

I do appreciate the offer though! We’re always game for money saving ideas, well except for the ‘get a new hobby’ versions.
