Fuel Vibration Damper? thing in front of Fuel Filt

#1

I’m in the process of tearing apart my fuel system and was wondering what the fuel pressure regulator looking thing is that inputs from the output of the fuel filter… In the Bentley manual it says it’s some sort of vibration damper?

What’s the point of this thing and do I need it?

That item is a vibration damper and its purpose is to smooth out pulsations in fuel pressure. The engine will run fine with out it, but presumably the BMW engineers knew what they were doing when they designed the fuel system. I leave it in. Well actually, I replace it with a new one and relocate it to the inlet line to rail (makes more room for fuel filter changes).

Ok, I’ll leave it be for now.
