Fuel Cell?

#1

Hi All,

I’m finishing up my initial round of purchases for the car (time to let the credit card cool down. Thank God for miles: B) ), and was curious what folks were doing regarding the use of a fuel cell. I’ve been discussing off line with a fellow competitor out here in Norcal who is planning to run with the OEM tank. Is that what others are doing?

I like the safety aspects of a fuel cell, but it’s one more system (and expense) to deal with. I want to follow class ‘best practice’, so any feedback would be appreciated!

I think you will find the general opinion is that the Stock E30 tank is in a very good location, very safe, and very inexpensive to just keep as is. The cell would have to go in the truck spare tire well, would move the weight behind the axle and be closer to getting smashed when backing into a wall at high speed.

Just keep the stock tank. Even if I ever have to replace the tank I would before I would go to a cell. I think there is a source for the tanks new for around $150.

Thanks Michael!

Glad to get confirmation that it’s OK to ‘leave it stock’!
