Front Hub R&R

#1

OK am I missing something basic here.

I pulled my old front hubs off w/o issue. One iner race stucl but I worked that off with out too much issue and w/o hurting the spindle.

I went to slide the new front hubs on and they just don’t seem to want to go on. I have FAG OE replacements. I even measured the inner races and they are the same size as the old ones I pulled off.

They start to bind as I slide them on. I accidentally trashed a new hub today when trying to remove it to realign things. Broke the bearing retainer in the hub.

Do they need to be pressed on somehow??? I have replaced a lot of front bearings in my life but never a BMW front hub. Am I missing something simple. I hope to not trash another $140 hub if possible and actually get my car back together to get to the track.

Thanks
Jason

no need to press but they are quite tight yes, you can try and lube the spindle (lol) before you push them on, or you can carefully heat the inside of the hub a little before you push it on. once you have it on enough to expose the threads for the nut, crank that on and let it tighten up the hub.

I wouldn’t mess around with any heat on the new parts. Make sure the spindle is really clean and apply a generous amount of bearing grease. The new part should go on most of the way by hand and easily the rest of the way while tightening the nut. If everything is on straight…
