Front Control Arms, READ THIS!

#1

While there is always a lot of talk on this board about safety equip, one of the items that is vital to safety is commonly bought from the cheapest source. I would not trust any lower control arms that did not come from a BMW dealer. Even if they have the roundel they could be counterfeit…it is not worth taking a chance saving a few $$

Care to elaborate? The arms themselves or the ball joints?

The design of the front suspension puts a load on the outer ball joint, the e30 M3 has the sway bar linked to the actual strut housing which is the solution. These days I think you can only buy arms with ball joints…so it is the joints, Non oem can fail, over or under torquing can really speed up the process. OEM need to be checked, I think I would change them after 2 seasons. Using non OEM is just a false economy, what do you save? Maybe $50 a side? All the arms are designed to bend…

Quality is important, but I dont believe you need to buy from BMW. Lemforder is a eom supplier, and make high quality components. I would agree to stay away from non eom components. There way cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

Lemforder is the way to go for critical parts. Thanks Al!

#6

agreed - MOM in San Diego also sells LCA’s you can trust.

What about Meyle? That’s what Bimmerworld has on their website…

#8

I had problems with Meyle tie rods before. I’d pass on them.

As long as you trust the supplier…My blue car had both controls replaced by a reputable shop right before I bought it, they both were making noise by the second track weekend, ones had a bad inner joint, the other was a bad outer joint…
