Front Bilstein length

#1

Hi all,

I was installing the spec front suspension and noticed the Bilstein leaves about a pinky’s gap between the perch pad and the H&R race spring. Is that normal?

I was concerned enough to remove it and reinstall the Koni. The Koni sport is about an inch shorter.

My part numbers are:
F4-P36-0335-H0
EBS-BMW3/1(F)

On similar note: Beware that Powerflex control arm bushings do not fit all arms. The new Meyle arms I have are beefier than the ones that the Powerflex were designed for. I spent an hour trying to grind out the hole in the bushing with no luck. That lesson is costing me.

Thanks-

I had the same experience when I was installing mine. I figured it was just because the H&R race springs are much shorter than stock which results in the gap. I just made sure the springs were seated in the perch/pad properly while lowering the car off the jack. I assume this is normal. Anyone else?

Yep, they’re short… just make sure the spring lines up properly with the perch when you lower the car back down after working on them.

Thank you.
I’m guessing the sway bar will help keep the inside corner spring somewhat seated in the turns. -if I can figure out how to mount the bushings.
