Fred S and Robert C are you out there ?

#1

Both guys had misfortunes that add up to totaled-out cars.I could start a thread about how I hate Road Atlanta, but that is not the focus of this thread. It is an unforgiving track.

We’ve all pitched-in to get other cars back to the track. How can we help Fred and Robert?

Guys let us know.

Regards, Robert Patton

Not sure exactly where you guys live but I’m currently in VA (Fredericksburg area) and I’m willing to lend a hand turning wrenches or drinking your beer. Feel free to ask, I don’t mind traveling a bit to help out either. I don’t have a lot of parts but an extra set of hands is always nice.

You probably knew no one in the SE would live near you in NoVA, but nice offer. FS is somewhere around Clemson; RC in the Pinehurst, NC, area.

Let us know what’s up guys.

Brian I need my oil changed, let me know what weekend is good for you. I’ll buy lunch.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the support. But first: major league thanks to the folks who helped me get the car (and me!) back on the trailer: Scott Gress, Craig Geiger, Scott McMennamy, TJ Brewster, & Claudio Cantalupo (hope I didn’t leave anybody out).

I’m reviewing my options (including having a ex-Porsche racer/builder buddy come over and look at the car tonight).

But to quote the Guvinator (insert Austrian accent here): “I’ll be back.”

Yea… if you guys need something, just let us know. If I’ve got a part or time to spare… it’s yours.

Looking forward to getting you back out there.

There is another car in the Virginia Beach area that is a spece30 in progress. Just needs a few mods to the roll cage, fire system, other safety stuff. Has spec suspension, etc. I can forward contact info if interested.

I can change your oil. I read about a new way to do it on the internet. Supposedly you just add about a 1/2 qt. of sand along with the oil and it polishes your engine internals! I know, it not “legal” but I’m willing to experiment with it on your engine. I’m pretty sure it makes more power and besides, you have that cheater cam in there anyway.

Fred/Bob,

I’m very sorry for your misfortunes.

I have an 89 that I purchased last year as a back up car. Please contact me for details if you are interested. It is a very nice car.

Fred/Bob -

I was sad to see your cars at the end of the weekend, but glad to hear you guys were OK.

I have a clean, straight 2 door 84 318i rolling chassis to sell if it helps get you back on track!

Guys,

Sorry to hear about your mis-fortune. Glad to hear there were no injuries.

I’m still in stage 2 (Anger)! I want to buy the Blues Bros car and go to the next spec miata event. It’ll only cost me 3 contact points; a real bargain. I can’t look at my car without wanting to vomit. I think the drive train is ok; and the springs; and some of the interior. The rest is toast.

Fred / Bob, I have a friend out here west of Atlanta that bought a late model (plastic bumper) tan two door E30 for a parts car. He has given up the sport and is looking to get rid of it for a couple hundred dollars. Most of what’s left of the engine (broken timing belt) is in the trunk but it should be a good One of the doors is banged up a little, but its a straight chassis and a good candidate for a Spec E30. I’ve asked him to get me a couple of pictures. E-mail me if you might be interested.

Same offer as Robert’s goes if you need any help with a wrench, I am there to help. I’ve gotten lots of help from these guys down here and am happy to lend a hand.

Thanks Kelly! I took my car to a frame shop to see if the “patient” can be saved. I’m waiting to hear from them now. If the diagnosis is bad news then I may be getting in touch with you.

When I totalled the black car last year I did a transplant…if you are carefull cutting the cage out you can have a good welder reinstall by building large footings and welding it back in. You can keep the front and rear hoops and re-do the door bars, or you can cut the roof off, take it out in one piece and then figue out the easiest way to reinstall…If either of the subframes are bent it will be appearent as they will not want to come out easily.

If either of yall need a front subframe I have a welder that is cheap and we did motor and swaybar reinforcements for $50…

Thanks to y’all for the offers and condolences. I found a new donor car. I should have it in the garage next week. The transplanting and reforming shall then commence. I’m planning to be at Rockingham in DE with my blue e28. Next season is still up in the air.

Not to be a pest but do let me know if you want a few guys to help with any part of your project.

I can probably get a couple of additional guys from Raleigh to spend a day with you.
