Fire Suppression System

#21

Ok, I got an email back from my region’s SCCA Tech.

"You are correct IT cars are not required to have an on-board fire system, only a hand-held fire extinguisher. If you do put in an on-board fire system (which I would recommend), it can be either a system certified to SFI 17.1 specifications or those listed by the FIA on Technical List No. 16. "

The bimmerworld SPA system is a FIA listed system, so this is good to go. I am buying it and some tow straps.

I put mine on the floor behind the passenger seat, with the valve/pin end towards the center so I can reach it from the driver’s seat so I can still reach it on grid if I forget to remove it. I also put a pull handle on the driver’s A-pillar and a second one on the main hoop at the passenger window. One nozzle aimed at the fuel rail (tube put through the same grommet that the ECU cable goes through, one nozzle at driver’s feet and one towards drivers lap (not at face).

Bimmerworld’s fire system prices are good because James likes to help get them into more cars (I’ve bought two from them)
cheers,
bruce

PO installed my FS bottle in the passenger footwell. That didn’t work well once I put in a passenger seat so I moved it to the trunk.
