Fire Bottle Recommendations

#1

Well the build (after the cage) is going a little slower than anticipated. I wanted to get some recommendations on locations of things:

The Fire Bottle (4 liter SPA). I was considering putting it in the passenger side just in front of the rear seat/bar. This allows me to put the passenger seat in and out (in front of it) to use the car for instructing at DE’s.

I wasn’t sure if I should really try to move it any farther back or not. Just curious to get an idea from racers on where they placed any or all of the following:
Fire System Bottle;
Master Electrical Cutoff;
Cool Suit Cooler (if applicable);

Thanks for your input…

Fire system bottle on the transmission hump behind the e-brake.
Fire extinguisher mounted on roll cage behind passenger seat (which normally is not there).
Fire system activation switch in the center of the dash.
Electrical cutoff switch - right by the passenger wiper attachment point.

A few thoughts:

I don’t think that these mounting places are necessarily ideal. The fire system bottle on the transmission hump is kind of dumb. I’d like to either mount it in the trunk (to help with F/R weight dist and get it out of the way) or on the floor (lower center of gravity). The mounting of the fire extinguisher works fine unless I have a passenger seat in the car (instructing or giving rides), in which case it’s pretty much worthless. Also, I think that the fire system activation switch and electrical cutoff should both be mounted on the A-piller downtube of the roll cage. This way the emergency crew can kill the power, activate the fire system, and check on the driver all from the same location. Oops - I think I just found a couple more projects…

Kelly -

Fire ext bottle on floor - passenger side, behind seat. Access is fine even with instructor seat in place.

Fire ext bottle mounted in center of horizontal cross between b-pillar bar of cage

Pull handle in center of dash - comes through where radio faceplace should be

Electrical kill on transmission hump with cable to A - pilliar for access by track crew

I will have the electrical pull switch on the outside at the psgr side A pillar (like Brain’s), one fire system activation pull mounted to the cage just inside the rear of the psgr side window, another fire pull mounted to the cage at the driver’s side A pillar so both driver and person releasing the net can get to it. Fire system bottle is on the rear psgr floor. Haven’t decided where the cool suit cooler will be yet.
