Finally, getting a car!

#1

Well after much looking around and contemplating various examples I’ve found one to pick up. The deal is made, just need to get the car in the next week. It’s an '89 325iS. In decent shape overall but the spares package is nice, comes with an extra 160k mile motor, DME, and harness! Already has Bilstein Sports so that’s good, also has the right sways, also good.

So, I already have a date with the cage builder so I have to quickly strip the interior, clean up some minor rust spots on the floor and off the cage builder it goes!

I would have preferred a 318 twin cam (and am still looking for one) but this will be a good start. The exterior is not great but it’s gonna be painted a nice orange/gray combo so no worries there.

Can’t wait to get started, check the website for updates on progress!

Jack:

Congratulations. While no one here has built a 318is, I still think the 325i is the way to go.

Keep us up to date on your progress.

Well, over the weekend I began to consider engine swapping this to run it as a 318iS. I have a diff, I have an engine, I have a DME…I’d have to see what else there is to swap (trans of course, maybe D/S too) but I may consider it. I REALLY wanna run a 318 just to mix it up a bit. And frankly I wanna see if it will be competitive…naturally I think it will but until I try it’s all just what ifs.

I have time to think though, cage is first, none of that will affect the engine. Still thinking…
