For those of you that run on-board fire extinguisher setups did you mount an exterior pull? If so where did you mount it?
Exterior fire pull
I just installed my fire system that I bought from BimmerWorld. I ran the cable down the passenger side and up through the fire wall where the main battery wire goes through. I mounted the pull handle in the small plastic panel at the bottom of the windshield. I had to drill a 1/4" hole in the outer firewall sheet metal directly below the mounting point of the handle. If you do this make sure the hole that you drill is directly below the handle or the cable will bind. If you want I can post a picture but it will have to wait until next Monday since my car is in the shop have the upper trans. seal replaced.
That is exactly where I was thinking of putting mine since there is already a hole there under the plastic piece.
I mounted mine just inside the rear of the front window (to the main cage bar) on the passenger side, and one on the drivers side (that I can also reach) just inside the front window on the A pillar down bar. So, both are externally accessible. I like that they can’t be touched when I put up the windows, they’re not getting rained on, etc.
cheers,
bruce
I just installed the exterior kill cable today. I used the same place you guys did (the vent thingy under the passenger side wiper). My kill switch is mounted in the area where the center console used to be. I was trying to figure out where to buy a pull cable, but then it dawned on me that I can cannibalize the cruise control throttle cable. 50 bucks saved.
