Exhaust header questions

#1

Our exhaust header has seen some better days. It is pretty rusted and has a lot of carbon buildup, and also the flange is kind of jagged. I was wondering if we could port it a little or at least clean up the jagged parts. I figure sand-blasting it is perfectly fine, but can we get it ceramic coated?

#2

Rules explicitly state no painting or coating, so no, not legal.

It’s become accepted practice to paint the engine and rocker-arm cover. We probably ought to submit a rule change to clarify that.

#3

Ok, but I can clean up the flange and blast the carbon buildup correct?

#4

That’s fine, clean and blast away.

Don’t be tempted to blast your intake manifold tho. No matter how much you clean it afterwards, grit will find a way into your cylinders.

Thanks for the quick responses.
