Evolution Zen Rear Chassis Brace - Spec e30 legal?

#1

hi,

I’ve been following this thread over on r3v about the development of a rear chassis brace for e30s.

Would this be considered legal? It is bolt-in and seems to comply with the rules:

9.3.8.9. Any bolt-in strut or shock tower brace is permitted, unless specified in these
regulations.

thoughts?

Part in ?

if we ran coilovers, that might help. Pretty useless on a spec e30 though.

yeah, not convinced of it’s usefulness. wondering as to it’s legality.

Looks like the way it is written it is okay, but it is not my call. From racing with a welded bar across the towers (long story)I can advise you not to waste your money.

i agree with your interpretation of the rules as well. i don’t have plans of running it… I have plenty of other things to do to bring my car to spec

it is easy to say that the upper part that bolts between the shock towers would be legal. The lower part that bolts to the floor pan is questionable - as soon as we say that is ok, then people might start tying in the diff mount or the spring mounts, etc. So, I’d say the lower part is not legal (but I’m only one small part of the rules committee).

Y’all are missing the whole point of the brace. The top part triangulates with the floor mount WHICH GOES THROUGH THE FLOOR AND ATTACHES/STRENGTHENS THE DIFF MOUNT. Since it does more than one thing, I suspect it would not be legal. Chuck
