Engine Help

#1

Guys,
I’m in need of guidance.
I recall someone breaking a rocker arm recently.
Unfortunately, I did the same while racing at the Glen last weekend.
#4 cylinder on the intake side.

I’ve had no prior experience with engine work (although I am contemplating finding an old used head to experiment on) so I am wondering what my best option is.

Should I have a local BMW-centric shop rebuild it?
Send it off to a higher-end performance/race shop?
Exchange the core for an already rebuilt unit?

Thanks,
Rob

I had this happen also. It isn’t just a broken rocker arm. You have to find out why it broke and what other damage has been done. The rocker arm on mine broke subsequently from some strange over-rev while accelerating. All 6 pistons has valve imprints on the tops and a couple of valves were bent. I’d spend some time either rebuilding the head (expensive) or just finding a used one. I’ve got a nice "e" head and an "i" cam if you are interested.
