I know there are some parts here that are not Spec E30 legal, but I’d be willing to break up the set for a Spec E30 racer or you can buy the whole thing and resell the header,ECU, and injectors (don’t recall if those are legal or not).

This engine has been super reliable and it’s only been to the track about 6 times in the last year and then only for HPDE’s. About 200K on the stock bottom-end but the top is very fresh. Never hot or over reved.

Southern Cal only, please.

what is interesting is that even with all of these spec e30 illegal items (AFPR is legal), it is only making 150rwhp, when a spec e30 legal one can make in the low 140’s or so.

This one sold, but my friend is pulling his M20B25 with about 60K on it from his 325iC. He’s in Carlsbad and the motor should be available in the next week or so.

Hey Chris, how’s it going?

I was considering an 87 325iS with a blown motor in Orange County but now I’m thinking that I should just buy a well running car that doesn’t have too many issues.

Unless you really enjoy digging into a car and have an open-ended schedule, spending more up front for a car in good condition will save a lot of time and effort. I happen to enjoy the process, which is a "good thing" since I’ve found a lot of "creative repairs" on the victim I have. I’ll just keep fixing those until the car is "track ready"…

The latest in a long list was finding out that the left and right sides of the front had two different shocks and spring pads. And that one lollipop had an offset bushing and the other didn’t. Makes you wonder about the previous owner(s). In the long run none of that matters as I’ll fix it up right, but things like that are just one more thing that needs attention.

I tend to differ on this, but perhaps because I tend to do all the work myself. Unless the previous owner had just replaced the complete suspension I would not pay much more for a clean E30 than I would for a beater. I would look for a car with a clean body, decent paint, and a reliable drive train (in that order). I would not look past the dash in the interior as almost everything else is coming out anyway. I would not take a 17+ year old car onto the track without replacing the control arms, tie rods, brakes & brake lines, and all of the suspension bushings including the subframe. Under the hood I would do the timing belt, check all the hoses, and run it till it blew.
