Endruo Fast Fueling

#1

Since Carlton and Carter will probably blow my doors off at the enduro I thought it couldn’t hurt to share, what I think is a pretty cool quick refueling setup for 5 Gallon tanks.

I got the idea from the Enduro rules, which state, you have to use 5 gal fuel tanks for refueling and that quick fuel methods are allowed and encouraged. It goes on to talk about using simple plumbing supplies to make a check valve. This sounded interesting so I thought I’d give it a try.

First I bought a few 5 gal fuel tanks and cut off the tip of the stock-refueling spout. I found that a simple plumbing check valve fit perfectly over the spout. On the other end of the check valve I used standard urethane tubing (I remember this from college) glued it together with adhesive that doesn’t mind petroleum and wall-a, I’ve got a quick refueling rig for about $9. And it works….almost as good as the beer-bong did in college

Nice. Don’t forget to plan for some sort of catch pan to get any overfill or spillage. I think big is better because it is hard to predict exactly where that big spurt of fuel will land.

I have the same type setup. Mine is a standard racing jug with a hole on the side near the bottom with a solvent resistant bulkhead fitting and ball valve. Like yours, I have a clear tube and ball valve at the top.

I’ll put the tube in the car’s filler neck, raise the jug up, and open the venting valve at the bottom.

As the fuel goes out, air goes in.

It’s a good setup though. Much better/easier/safer than the "funnel-and-pour" method.

I was thinking about pulling out the size restrictor just inside the filler neck so I can use a large diameter fuel hose…but it doesn’t say anything about this in the Rules, so it must stay as it came from the factory.
