Emblem Removal Prior to Paint?

#1

I just got a quote from Peach Auto Painting for a bright orange paint job. I’ll have to add the black and yellow myself since they only do one color. Total price: $373. That’s nice and cheap, and will lose the ugly Bronzit color (as long as you don’t look at my door jambs)! Does anyone know of a good resource that describes how to remove the various emblems? For instance, I’d like to take off the roundels, front and rear, as well as the "325is" label on the trunk prior to painting. I don’t recall the Bentley discussing this.

Thanks,
Sasha

I think the front and rear are held on with two prongs and gromets. Just stick a screw driver wrapped in a cloth and pry them up and work them out. I have heard of using dental floss for "sawing" off the 325i by sawing throught the adhesive.

Yep, those are the two preferred methods. you can get some double sided sticky 3M stuff at your favourite local parts store to re-apply the 325is badge.

Dental floss will break. Use a hair dryer to heat the 325 and use fishing line to saw it off.A 15 lb line works great. Regards, Robert Patton

Yep, dental floss breaks. BTDT.
As for your jambs, either do them yourself prior to them getting it or do it afterwards. Horrible as it sounds, you could just brush paint the jambs with the leftover paint they will likely have. A few brush marks are a lot more attractive than Bronzit.

Sasha, I’m willing to help you do the trim, if you need it.

Peach did my two-color job with no objections, if your design complex?

#8

No, my paint scheme isn’t complex. I want it all orange, and then a diagonal line starting at the top of the rear tail lights down the side of the car dividing the orange up top from the solid black below. The minute I started explaining this, the Peach guy on Hillsborough in Durham froze up/freaked out. I’ll do that myself. I’m not proud. Plus, anything’s better than Bronzit! Sorry, but I think my door jambs and interior will remain Bronzit for now.

Sasha - don’t fret about the interior/jambs. Remember, Mike’s car started out as the art car. We had it painted - no jams/interior paint and you don’t notice it on the track!

For Ric, no disrepect to the original art car intended - it was a great racing platform!
