ECU Question

#1

this may be in the wrong subforum but since it affects the performance of the car i thought i’d post it here…

I was just going over the rules and it says that ECU’s may not be modified, however it states that it may be replaced with a non-speed limited ECU…

which cars brought a non-speed limited ECU??? European cars? any help here would be greatly appreciated…

my car currently conforms to SCCA IT-S rules so I’m trying to find out what needs to be retrofited/upgraded/downgraded to conform to Spec E30

TIA,

Mike

You want the computer that part number ends in 173. Plug and play with any of our engines (M20B25).

that’s exactly the one i have on my car, i didn’t know it had no speed governor hmmmmm

To be clear, more than just the 173 computers are speed limiterless. I believe the 153 doesn’t have one, maybe more. The 524/5? has the limiter around 122-124 mph.

i guess i’m set… my car is an '89 but i also had a '90 parts car equipped with a 173 which i sourced and chipped when installing in my IT-S car.

thanks for the info… it seemed really confusing at first glance.
