Dummy lights relocation

#1

Per advice I received reading up on coolant loss without warning and other bad things, I’ve decided to keep the dummy lights/heads up display and relocated it to the stereo’s former home.

The cable is long enough to pull all the way down and through the dash into the area where the stereo used to be.

The HUD is a little taller than the stereo opening and not as wide. It took some trimming to get it to fit. I stole some plastic trim from the old parking brake surround to fill in the gap.

And viola. A couple self tapping screws hold it in place (not looking for a show winner here, but I think it turned out half way decent).

Yeah, I had done the same thing a few years ago…was feeling pretty clever, until the low-coolant light came on in the middle of a race, and not wanting to toast my motor, came in to the pits, only to discover the fault was with the sensor/wire, not the coolant itself. IE I tossed away a perfectly good sprint race for nothing.

I don’t think there’s really anything in that check panel that you want to know AND should depend on during a race, so despite how nice the job you did, take anything it tells you under advisement and not as gospel truth.

Yeah, you are right these things are a bit finicky. At least it could be something to check when you get back to the pits that you wouldn’t have thought to check otherwise.

I have thought about doing this as well. I have a new coolant sensor in there, and that light has worked for me in the past. Unfortunetly my brake lights one lights up and despite replacing the brake light switch near the pedal it still stays lit all the time making me think my brake lights aren’t working even though they all work perfectly.

i’d much rather install a water pressure guage than rely on that.
