Any one care to recommend a good suit and the best place
to purchase?
thanks,
Steven
You looking for a 2 or 3 layer suit?
saferacer.com has good prices on suits and they have a 10% coupon code for this month.
Word of advice…Don’t go cheap. I have a G-force suit that was inexpensive, but I got what I paid for. It has an SFI-5 rating but it’s very HOT and not too comfortable.
If I can ever find the extra scratch, I’ll buy an Impact or Sparco SFI-5 suit.
I know this won’t help you but I just found a brand new Sparco "5" suit on ebay for $450 shipped, retailed for $900. As far as the suit, its a great fit and fairly light weight. Keep a check on ebay for similar deals.
I had also decided on the G-Force 545 until I came across this deal.
The problem with the G-Force suits is that some of the fire-retardant layers are treated cotton that will eventually wear through the treatment.
If you’re in the D.C. area, I’d suggest going to O.G. Racing – they carry most of the popular Sparco, G-Force and Simpson suits (IIRC) and usually have quite a few of each in stock. Just like helmets, I found that having the opportunity to try on different suits from different manufacturers helped me find the right suit (a Sparco 5 for $550).
Yeah, I got my Sparco from OG Racing a few years back and have never looked back. Brian Hair is the man to talk to at OG - he’s helped me a bunch. They occasionaly have sales (they just had 10% off everything) and do have good deals on closeouts.
Remember. chicks dig guys who wear race suits.
Good luck!

Speaking of heat, I found this cool vest via recommendation from another racer:

It is much more affordable than the kind with an ice chest that pumps water into your vest and works pretty well. You also don’t have to muck with the external hose connections.
Well after reading about "new" suits and wanking about the P.O.S. G force suit I currently own, I decided to bite the bullet and order a new Sparco from OG racing.
I guess I’ll put my old G-Force suit on ebay…maybe someone in antartica needs a winter outfit.

I would be interested to know just how well this works. My main concern would be just how bulky it would be. I wonder how it would feel with the harness on and tightened down.
