Driver's attire

#1

Ok. I need some clarification from the pros. I was reading over the CCRs again and came across something I didn’t see before. The rules say we shall wear a one piece suit (it says the suit shall be one piece). Does this mean it HAS to be one piece or recommended to be one piece?

I use a G-Force 2 piece that is 3.2A/5 rates, but now I have to buy a new one??? And, I guess if it’s rated 3.2A/5 we don’t need to use any special underwear, correct? But if mine is a 2 piece, can I just buy some fire retardant underwear? It would still be cheaper than a new suit.

I hope it recommends a one piece. I’d hate to have to spend another 500-600 bucks on a new suit.

Thanks,
Alex.

“driving suits shall be one piece …” shall is directive
sorry

I’m sorry but that is just stupid. They make 2 piece suits and still pass all the tests and get the same safety rating. Yet NASA deems them unsafe…

Chances are buying the nomex underwear would be more expensive

Can’t go wrong with GForce, I have the same suit. Last year at Roebling I broke the zipper pulling the suit over my shoulder without the zipper completly un-zipped. I called GForce and they told me to send it in. I got it back completly fixed and cleaned free of charge.

You can also get suits used on Ebay. Not sure I’d get at A1 suit that way because their fire resistance is a product of some “treatment” that eventually wears away, but it’s a good way to get an A5 suit.

If you get the Discovery Parts suit, you can get an additional 10% off by entering Princess Sparkle Pony in the notes field.

Voicing your displeasure on the spec e30 site isn’t gonna get you very far. You might as well be sending yourself an email. While you might have a legit issue with the rule, you might want to take this up with NASA National. With that said, I think the 2 piece suits can’t be any where near as safe as a one piece. I’ve heard stories of drivers getting 2nd degree burns on their legs where their pants leg rode up above their shoes.

Safety is not a place to cut corners

If you’re going to go GForce, and you’re a cheapskate like me, check out http://gforceoutlet.com and see if they have what you want.

I rock the gforce 545. It keeps me nice and warm on those frigid summer race days.

Scott Mc,

At least I can vent. My 2 piece has the same rubber band holding the pants in at the bottom. Anyways this is moot.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’m going to go by CV products today and see if they have something reasonably priced. It’s tough to order online with a week before the event. If not I’ll have to reschedule my comp school for RA. I just can’t justify spending another 500-600 for this stuff.

this is the one I was going to Buy

it is new http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320261770213&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem= $215 SFI-5

If you find yourself in a crisis, you can borrow one of my suits. Assuming that it’ll fit. One is a L and the other is an XL. Both have been taken in at the waist.

If you qual well ahead of me, you should note that there is an inside pocket for my transponder.

Call discovery parts, if he has that suit in stock i’m sure he could bring it to the track for you.

#12

There isn’t ever too much at CV that is reasonably priced.

Ron at Discovery Parts may be able to bring some suits to the track.

I also have a Large Gforce suit (I’m 6’1" and ~215lbs) that you could borrow for the event. Especially if waiting a few more weeks means you can buy a better suit. I’ll be getting there Sat. morning. LMK.

Watch out for differences in suit sizing. My L suit is apparently a lot smaller then JP’s L suit. I’m smaller then he is, yet my L suit is too tight.

Especially in the crotch.

JP like his tight, he also wore it with nothing underneath. (at least that is what Jones told me).

Make sure it is washed if you’re borrowing…

#15

That is rediculous. Do you really think I spent all that money on a Nomex G-string not to wear it?

#16

JP’s theme song: CB4 “sweat on my balls”

#17

I thought it was “A$$ and T!tties” - DJ Assault?

#18

That too! I was listening to that yesterday;)

He meant his torso.
