Driver cooler fix

#1

Near the end of last season, I noticed that my driver cooler wasn’t cooling the driver very well. The pump was running but it just didn’t do much cooling.

Today, I unscrewed the cap on the return fitting, inside the cooler. It has a small hole in the center and presumably restricts the water flow some.

After removing it, a bunch of crud spewed out. I turned off the pump and cleaned out the cooler. After turning the pump back on, the flow was much-improved and the shirt got cold again.

I’ll check the cap every race weekend because crud will get in there and the inlet screen on the pump is pretty open.

Mmmmm… Yummy!

No kidding. It was nice.

I’ll run a couple of capfulls of bleach in the full cooler, through the cooler pump and the shirt to kill any living crud.

I wonder if those small inline fuel filters used on carbeureted engines would help?

A good thought.

Thanks.

Fish tank algecide tablets disolved in the H20 may help kill the goop. bleach is an oxidizer and may affect the parts.
