drive shaft length ??

#1

Does anyone know if the assembled drive shaft length is the same in a 2 door car, as in a 4 door car ??

#2

2 and 4 door driveshafts are the same length.

Ron, welcome to the wit and wisdom of the SpecE30 community.

I’ve been fortunate not to stumble into the dreaded double-post cesspool, but could one of you double-post survivors tell the rest of us (and Ron) how to avoid falling into that trap?

#9

I’ll take a stab at that one Chuck. Usually I just hit the reply button once.

Oh, and thanks again.

lol,
it seems that double posts happen for some reason if you are editing a reply for a long time before you submit it (don’t know how long). Also, backing up through the posting form also seems to resubmit it. I click on the breadcrumb links near the top
eg. SpecE30 >> Car Preparation >> Performance
to jump to another place to avoid the double post.

But Auto trans and manual trans drive shafts are not the same

What are the differences in driveshafts over the years?

I ask because i see the center bearings change. Is this due to a change in the driveshaft or something else?

#13

Just guessing here, but it may be a difference in the bodyshell.

I transplanted a '90 drivetrain complete into an 85 shell a few years back. The center bearing bolts did not line up, so we McGyver’ed it by slotting the center bearing bracket to get enough wiggle room to make it work.

I would concede that having the correct center bearing is the preferred way to go, but based on what I did I’d say you can improvise.
