It is kinda dumb that most of us have been faster on the street than on a race track.
Incedintally I took out my e39 M5 to Road Atlanta last spring and saw 140 on the back straight. I have all stock brakes and had to start braking before the crest of the hill. Took only 4 laps before my front rotors were completely warped. I was able to close on a modded 996TT in his draft, but he gained 10 car lengths on my due to my extended braking zone. Gapped out a Z06 coming out of T7, so I was pretty impressed with the engine. It was interesting that the car was completely nuetral however, despite what all the magazines said. The M5 is all motor and no brakes, not a good combo…
For comparison:
In the SpecE30 SU, I think I barely saw 115, but I was braking at about the 150-200 ft. mark I think. Not sure if I got it over 120 or not with the "i" engine since the speedo doesn’t work since the swap. 125 was common in my old H-stock e36 M3.
