Dealing with interior wire bundles

#1

Prepping to paint the interior and cage. Of course, there is this collection of electrical spaghetti routing down both sides of the car and across the rear seat back area. Whats the best way to secure these? Disassemble the original ties, paint, and put em all back?:S. Or chuck all the old stuff, use tie wraps, but put em in the same place? Move things to less intrusive routings? How?

I pretty much just undid the easy clips and moved held the wires away from their resting place while I sprayed. Then just lay them back down and move on. I didn’t really care if I got overspray on the wiring or if the paint under the wires was a bit uneven. It’s up to you how important that is.

You can use aluminum foil to wrap the wire bundles during painting. Edit - I did this with a restore I did a few years ago, easy to wrap foil around areas you don’t want to paint / pretty workable, and no sticky residue after.

Whats the best way to secure these wire bundles? I’d like to protect them from getting kicked, snagged, rubbed, etc. I’m tempted to lay duct tape over them, but thatd be a huge mess if i ever needed to get to them.

What do you guys do?

I ended up using split loom tubing available at car audio installation shops or (in limited sizes) from Lowes. I’ll post some pictures when I get home.

Kudos to GOLDFISH for the aluminum foil wrapped around the wires trick.
I was welding uncomfortably close to a wire bundle and wrapped them with foil and also used a small piece of aluminum as a heat shield. No melted wires.
I can see where his aluminum foil technique will work great for painting the interior as it seems to hold the wires tight. I’ll be doing that too when its time to paint the cage.
