Can you use an aftermarket bottle/overflow tank that uses a standard radiator cap? I have an 87 325is with a cracked bottle and a bad sensor could it be replaced with a unit like this?

Not allowed, according to the rules.
I’ve had no trouble picking up another one of those in the junkyard for $5. Nobody ever takes them. I’ve got one in my spares pile right now, in fact. Won’t be as cheap, but you can get used ones from www.bmwwholesale.net. He’s treated me quite well.

I have a spare from an 87 - wont work in my 90, so if you want it, I’d take $10 plus shipping for it.
