I’m at the end of another frustrating day at the racetrack, writing this from the lovely Comfot Inn in Pueblo Colorado. My car that was mostly bullet proof last year has has issues the first two races.
Race one: the car died suddeenly on the track, at the same place in the Saturday race and the Sunday race after about 10 minutes. I thought I had it traced to a lose battery cable and all was good.
Yesterday: Car died yesterday after hitting a bump, coasted into the paddock. IT restarted once then wouldn’t start again. Had spark, fuek to the fuel rail. I noticed the master switch wasn’t working right. I replaced it and the car started and seemed to be OK, it idled for about thirty minutes without any issued.
This morning: Went out on the warm-up. CAr died in about the same place on the track in the 2nd lap. Won’t restart. We replaced the front relay (fuel), no help.
Jim Liethauser was at the track today; he’s a great mechananic and championship SCCA racer. He suggested, after looking at a few things that one, or more, of the cold solder joints in the DME might have cracked. We took it out of the car, cracked it open but didn’t see anything visible on the circuit boards. We did test what we could per Bentley and found out the 1,3,5 injectors aren’t firing nwhen you jumper them in the main connector harness. At the end of the day we told Jim about the further tests we ran and he still thnks it is the DME.
So, is it the DME? How much are they and where can I buy a couple (I think I want a spare)?
