Come see the new and improved Thunderhill!

Hey Guys,

We are having a Teen Car Control Clinic this Friday the 8th from 10am to about 2pm. It is basic car control that we teach to all the teen drivers to help save lives. All you do is ride along and instruct. If anybody is interested in coming up and helping give me a call immediately. 530-934-5588 ext116

It is a great opportunity to see all the work that has been done during the repave, as well as come to the track and have fun without having to pay for that big diesel rig to get back and forth!!!

See you at the track!

Hey Will,

Have you driven on the new surface yet?
If so can you give us a download?

How about Adam L, Ron H and Scott C? You guys were there this weekend with the GGC BMWCCA! Video perhaps?

Cheers,
Scott Neville

Scott,

Yes Scott,
Adam, Ron and myself spent two days at the track this weekend. The track has not changed significantly, they did some grading which has helped in the more open vision in some of the corners and did some unexpected changes to the curbs, especially turn 4, 6, 8, 12, 14, that have big abrupt curbs. Adam talked to Will this weekend and he said that they are not done yet and they are going to grind the cement curbs to lessen the severity of the curbs. Also some other changes will be implemented, turn 8 exit, turn 12 to stop us from straightening out the the esses. Obviously they are not done yet and just completed enough to keep to their commitments of scheduling to the BMW club for this last weekend. I am sure if they had all of the time in the world they would have foregoed this last weekend and waited until they were totally completed. We had a great time and, I am sure all of us can’t wait until our next race at the Hill in two weeks. All in all we had a great weekend at a great and ever improving track. I am sure that Adam and Ron can further embellish on the track and their experience this last weekend. I can’t wait to go back in two weeks and play with all of the spec e30 guy’s.

Scott covered the highlights. There’s a bit of a dip at the apex of T1 that I don’t recall being there. The berm out of T15 is longer and much improved. The berm at the apex of T14 no longer has the crazy dip on the inside. I’ll upload some video and link it in this thread when I do.

#5

oh yeah, really soft dirt off course if you go off, especially in turn ONE.

#6

Haha, no hard feelings Scott?

Also, I forgot that Ron dropped 2 off and hit something (rock? ree-bar?) that punched straight through a tire and the rim.

Thanks guys for a glimmer of things to come in a couple of weeks. Hopefully all the leftover rebar will be picked up!

Looking forward to some Hi Def video from Adam’s in-car camera. I also picked up an Aiptek HD camcorder (a B-day present to myself) and will have it for the next event!

Cheers,
Scott

#8

Guys, did you notice any grip change on the new surface?

Happy B-Day Neville!

#9

I did not notice any more grip and it got pretty slick on sunday afternoon and it was only 95 or so. Much much smoother though. I don’t know what Adam’s assement is, so what is it Adam?

Happy B-Day Scott

Scott

Thanks for the Birthday wishes guys!!

I’m borrowing an RX-7 and going up with Trackmasters on Friday and will shoot some video too and will post a lap or two. A friend of mine sent this photo from Rennlist of the curb at T3.

Anyone going to be up there Friday?

Definitely smoother. It wasn’t noticeably grippier, but I think it’ll speed up as rubber is layed down. I was faster Sunday afternoon out of T2 than at any other point in the weekend, despite it being hotter than any other point on the weekend. That may have been motivation from the “simulated racing exercise”.

I should look at the data, but I hate the G2X software so much that it’s improbable. Anybody want to buy a used G2X?

#13

Did you get lap times?

Here’s the pic (I hope)…

If anyone knocks that cone over, it could be the last thing they do for the weekend

Check out gotbluemilk.com, click on calender/photos, click on bmwggc/thunder hill on Saturday, click on car 201 Bill Arnold, check out that turn three berm and cone. Bill was all over those big berms to check out his set up on the Bavaria for the up coming Targa Newfoundland race in September. None of us dared run the berms/curbs like that. I agree with Adam after more rubber gets laid down the grip should come in as well.

Here’s some more photos guys…

Check out T8, big difference. I hope it’s not as slow as it looks now. Glad to hear that hole on the out of T15 is fixed - if you early apex that sucker’s a Bottlecap killer…glad I have TDs! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey Mr. C - I see you testing those berms in the esses too - nice!

Bummer there’s not a photo of all three of you guys in one frame, plenty of Adam and Scott mixing it up. One of Adam putting a move on Ron, looks like fun guys!

But I couldn’t find the one with Adam winning, could someone send it to me? j/k!!

For that pic you’ll have to wait til the races at THill in 2 weeks

T8 is still flat in the spec e30. There were lots of people braking or lifting (me, til sunday) too much for it due to fear of the monster berm.

#19

Hey Adam…when are you going to post some Hi Def in-car video? I’m dying to see some footage :woohoo: !

Cheers,
Scott

Hey Guy’s
Here is a video from Stuart Scollay that shows the simulated race. I don’t think he will mind if you all check it out. It was posted on the PDC list that Adam and I belong to.
