Another incredible weekend with NASA Southeast. To start, I hate that the video above is the first one we see and will most likely be the largest discussion point because there was some absolutely incredible hard, tight, and clean racing going on most of the weekend.

The weather was absolutely perfect on Saturday and turned out decent for Sunday. The threat of rain was there all day Sunday but managed to hold off for the entire event.

For me, Saturdays race was a blast. Sandro got out to an early lead and was impossible to real in. That left a great battle between Damian Moses and I that lasted the entire race. Really close battle the entire time. Fortunately for me, I was able to hold off his one last ditch effort coming out of 12 and maintained my second place position to the checkered flag. Unfortunately for both me and Damian, we were both disqualified hours later when it was brought to our attention that we both passed an out of class car under a local yellow. Tunnel vision certainly got the best of me as I was heavily focused on a yellow Escort that Sandro had just passed and I was pressed to get around the car before Sandro jumped out to a huge lead. In the end, it was a poor move on my part. Live and learn.

As for Sunday, probably one of the best true battles I have been in. Sandro was on Pole and I qualified P2 with Damian P3. I was able to get to turn 1 slightly ahead of Sandro and was able to hold the lead for a few laps while watching Sandor and Damian battle hard for second. As the race progressed, Position 1, 2, and 3 changed repeatedly! Every little mistake cost each of us positions. At a couple times during the race we were heading into corners three wide and every time came out of it unscathed.

In the end, it was Sandro 1st, Damian 2nd, and I followed in third right behind Damian. I had one last ditch effort heading into the kink two wide with Damian but I decided to yield at the last second to ensure all cars were able to be driven back onto the trailers at the end of the race.

I will work on getting my video up in the next couple of days. It is very similar to the tight racing that went on at Roebling last month but will not have the great commentary our Mr. Gress.

Great time with all the E30 crowd Saturday night!

Ditto to what Ryan said. Great racing this weekend and I feel like the rust has been knocked all the way off now! This weekend was some of the funnest spec e30 racing I have ever been in! I watched my video last night from Sunday’s race and I think I started sweating again. 3 wide into turn 4!!! It was an intense battle. editing video is not my strong suit so who knows when I will be able to get video up, but its pretty good stuff.

One of the first things you should of learned: Don’t come back on track until you are in control.

#5

My read was that John wasn’t really trying to get back on the track, he was just trying to get his car under control. It would be different if he had gained control of the car, and then in the next step raced back on to a busy track. The latter certainly has happened in the past, but I don’t think this was an example of it.

#6

Scott, reread your statement. Maybe we watched a different video.

You go off track you stay off track until you regain control. Do you see the front tires straighten to continue off the track? Nope, just keep on digging for that 15th place trophy. Although next to impossible to see, any sign of braking (probably not needed once the car was straightened)?

How many times does this group have to relive this message.

Had the 31 car carried a little more speed off the corner, we could have shared a beer inside the car.

Frankly, I’m tired of this.

Were this a game of tiddley-winks it would not matter. It isn’t. It matters. I’d say someone is going to be hurt, but, wait, that has already happened.

It is not just CMP, is it time to take a look at all of this and previous year’s mistakes?

You are the director. Take charge? Your call. I’m tired of this.

Yep, I’m ticked-off.

That incident was completely unfortunate. About the same thing happened to John Clark at Roebling but he was on the receiving end, and he got hit head on! I think it happens so quick that your instincts take over, it’s easier to control the car once you go off into a straight like what happened to me at RR on Sunday first lap, and what happened to Gress right before this impact, but I really don’t know about when you’re sideways.

#8

Other than that incident, the weekend was a really cool one. Saturday’s race was very uneventful, but I learned a lot about CMP, dang that track is difficult. Saturday night was a blast, sometimes a blast of tequila/club soda, upside-down “tucanazo” - So in Mexico, one of the interrogation practices is what they call the “Tucanazo” which consists of shaking a soda bottle and shooting it up the interrogee’s nose, club soda water boarding :stuck_out_tongue:

Sunday was a blast, an awesome battle with Moses and Whitinger, dang that was intense, I love this shit!!!

Can’t wait for Rd. Atl.

Wow, what a video!!

I gotta say… there’s been a lot of very close racing up front this year with different contenders and no accidents, I’m just can’t say enough about the group of individuals that I’ve had the pleasure to race with this year, no drama, no blaming others, giving ourselves plenty of room, gotta love it! I hope it stays like this all year :cheer:

Was running the Team Fire Engine Convertible E30 in Thunder and was running with the CMC mustangs and the time trial session showed the fastest lap I could run in that car, in my opinion it had nothing left. Here’s the excuses :stuck_out_tongue: on old RA1’s, engine only makes 132 HP, and not to mention aero disadvantage with convertible, ok that’s all, here’s the highlights

http://youtu.be/Zz9cpCtJO_o

As for the new four door E30 I’m building, it’s a work in progress. Don’t know yet if it will be ready for June RA, but my overall goal is to have it ready for nationals. Hopefully one day I’ll get back out there with you guys!!

#13

Brandon, check out the results from good ole Al Taylor. I continue to wonder about the aero of a convertible. None of us can define how bad it is, but we can see how bad 132hp is. The fire chief with a good engine could be a formidable car.

#14

I checked out the results and looks like i was running a tenth off Al’s best time on Saturday, doesnt look like he ran Sunday. Put some RR’s and some more HP in it and I think its a front running car!

#15

Yep.

How’s the J Stock suspension?

#16

It was great! Had to change the setup a bit to cope with it, but once I got it dialed in it worked great. The one downfall is that it is hell on the rumble strips, you could probably get a concussion it so rough

#17

Had a blast racing with you guys once again. Happy the weather held up. Also Saturday night’s antics were epic. Bummer about the Saturday incident, but other than that, the racing was clean and tight. I’ll get the shift selector rod fixed in no time, and I hope to be back out there soon!

Colin

P.S. Anyone have any traqmate data they’d like to share from the weekend? I will be discreet if required.

#18

iC at VIR aero = - 1.5 secs, I am dead last with top off. Engine is tired (145??HP), Diff is completely shot…

My fastest time this last weekend was in the session where there were yellow flags everywhere, because I was drafting a TR or P944 the whole time. I think the disadvantage at CMP might be .5 sec.

iC would have a huge disadvantage at RA, of course remains to be seen what the car would be like with a real motor.
