I saw a few cars didn’t finish both races and some didn’t participate on Sunday. Hopefully no wrecks or damage. Looks like Pantas was doing pretty well. Looking forward to some reports and video.
Great weekend at CMP in spite of the cold and carnage. We will bring the air hockey again Al,and hopefully it wont be ice hockey next time.
The damage from this weekend was just one of those things, but was at least entertaining and repairable.
That was a pretty intense crash! I hope you guys get the bangin’ out of your system early in the season because I’m moving back to Savannah, GA this summer…
Fishman, glad to hear you’ll be back this summer. That’s great news.
As for this past weekend, despite my 2-DNF result from the races, I was really encouraged how my car ran. I spent a lot of time this winter shedding weight so I could actually ballast back up to minimum. That, plus a rebuilt diff from Brendan Digel and a properly functioning suspension meant I could actually put power down exiting the slow RH turns.
From my camera, I have a birds-eye view of Walsh/Harness coming together right in front of my car, but I didn’t catch the lead-in to the incident. I will edit down the first lap and post it later today.
Johan finished first on Saturday but was DQ’d due to expired safety equipment (belts/net) The results on MyLaps don’t yet reflect that, but I’ve asked NASA to make that correction.
My only advice to everyone else regarding the 401 at CMP is that it seems to be cursed. I have gotten hit 4 different times over the past 3 years or so, and the Saturday hit that only scuffed up the body on both sides and broke my tie rod was the least expensive of the 4.
Unfortunately, the new NASA built-in scales at CMP failed miserably. They started off reading low (based on comparison to my own weight taken on Longacre scales the week before) and progressed to being wildly inconsistent. As a result we had to operate on the honor system for weights.
Hopefully they can resolve the issues with them for future events

Thanks for the entertaining video. It is a shame to bust up that pretty car but as the Nascar boys say, “it’s just one of them racin deals”.
Good luck getting it back together.
Don
That’s pretty cool…
It looks like you were able to shift OK with that nub.
Might there be a “short” (get it) shifter in the works?
Now, please post the whole race video for our Valentines day entertainment. the wife won’t mind.

I think Walsh’s video sums up the weekend. all to common start to the SE season.
Congrats to Evan for the back to back wins.
I chased a stutter occuring at 5700 rpm that was rare at RA in December but became all to common at CMP, breaking momentum. Thanks for all the input from the group and especially Scott and Davids work on tracking down the issue by race time on Sunday. No, we are not sure what fixed it exactly since we replaced the coil, throttle body, kill switch, mass air flow sensor, purple wire etc…whatever, no problem during Sundays race. My traqdash failed to record so no video, but it would have been boring from my view watching Evan and Johan set sail except for a few good laps with Robert Patton. After Johans DQ, I managed 2nd both races which has been my best to date.
Great off track fun as usual in the South East!
I had lunch with Matt Harness today in Huntsville and he told me about the incident. Sucks for all involved!!

It helped that David is used to working with a short nub.
Too soon?
Bryan from T&S has posted corrected results for Saturday, at http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=2169757
Here’s a limited view from my car of the mess on the first lap, which resulted in relatively minor body damage to both sides and a broken tie rod.
In the matter of the DQ, my understanding is that the expired belts were noted at the annual tech, and the remedy (new belts before the first event) didn’t happen. In that scenario, the DQ is appropriate.
