CMP Race Results/ Stories

#1

Rather than the stories lose their effect in some “smack talk” thread, post 'em here.

Congratulations to Dave White in his runaway win on Saturday.

Congratulations to Steve DeVinney on his second race win on Sunday.

I don’t type too fast, so you guys take it away.

PS beware, Laura will be getting some new straightaway talent. Her junkyard engine just lays down once it gets warmed up. She was good in the Taxi on Sunday till bump-induced electrics, literally, cut her off from a good finish. Way to go girl!
PSS Happy birthday to Laura, too.

I think you meant “second place win” on Sunday. Johann was the class of the field. Pantas offered to DQ him for “not running a spec exhaust” since it fell off halfway through the race, but I couldn’t do that to the guy.

Laura had a breakthrough on Sunday and qualified well! Nice birthday present to herself. It was really fun battling her for the first few laps. I think I made her mad when I asked before the race if she was going to give me a “point by” or if I should just pass her. :woohoo: All in good fun.

PS - Dave’s performance on Saturday was impressive!! I never go the story about why IndyJim didn’t race Sunday. Hopefully nothing’s wrong with the car - or him!

MYLAPS shows Geeger on pole for Saturday qual session but not in race? Was he just a paid professional to put the car up front?

#4

Dave White was driving Geeger’s car.

More like he paid a professional to put his car up front and keep it there. Dave White was driving the #82 cheater wagon on Saturday.

Indy Jim packed up and drug it back to Craig Sunday morning before he got a chance to ruin all of Dave’s hard work by putting the car back in 8th or 9th at best. Good move to save some face Jack Handle Jim!

#6

Kieth, it was White all along, a T&S oversight.

Steve, you’re not Sunday’s winner?
Agreed, Johann was the number 1 guy on Sunday…did Jim and T&S not do the DQ?

RP

#7

Nope - no DQ for Johann. I thought Jim was joking.

And I didn’t want to overshadow Geegar’s commanding CMP victories this year as both driver and car owner.

I’m throwing my .02 cents in…requested or not. Johan should DQ for two reasons; first the obvious HP advantage from the lack of exhaust system and second, the disadvantage the field had to incur navigating around his debris. Wasn’t there body contact between Patton and Group because of this? No fair!

#9

I’d love it if everyone would run without exhausts. The lack of backpressure cutting down power, engine failures due to burnt valves… I could finally get the finishes I deserve.

The corner had the debris flag out. Some people use slow cars to their advantage. Some use slower car parts to their advantage.

No way he should be DQ’d for that. It is unfortunate the exhaust fell off but definitely not a performance advantage. Unless you count the weight savings. He certainly didn’t drop the exhaust on purpose…or did he?

SteveD was only 1.4 seconds back at the finish of the race, he was definitely gaining ground on Johan. As you can see on Mylaps, SteveD was running fast but Johan’s fast lap was on lap two. A whole two seconds faster than the next fastest lap of the race. Johan’s lap times did fall off a bit after that. (No pun intended) Yes he ran a couple 1.54’s late in the race but earlier in the weekend he was hitting 1.51’s.

I do think the exhaust should be safety wired up so that it cannot fall off of the car even if it gets knocked loose though. Fred Switzer, Jim Levie and a few others have a pretty simple yet effective design for this. I plan on safety wiring mine before the next event. Rulez allowance or no.

I deserve no credit for that. Johan was running a very smart race. After he dropped the exhaust he backed his pace down so he wouldn’t stress the motor. And to save fuel to maintain weight. If he had kept the hammer down he would have finished half a lap ahead, but he short shifted and ran just fast enough to keep me safely behind.

#12

Brian, of course he didn’t mean for it to fall off, but there is an advantage to not having back pressure and less weight. Did the car get weighed after the race?

#13

Nobody got weighed after the race. He was as legal as anyone else. He could have had a 351 Cleveland and if there was no tech and no protest, there is no DQ.

Now we get to argue about whether losing all backpressure is a power gain or power loss…

Ooh, ooh… I’ll start: Definite Loss.

Back to the real topic, the weekend results:

I’d like to thank both of my hand selected team drivers, Dave White and Jim Robinson, for adding an enduro victory to my car’s heritage and also Dave White for supplementing its already prestigious history with yet another sprint race victory. And for fixing the starting issue by putting a new switch in. Apparently, IndyJim is really afraid of electricity.

Sorry I missed the weekend, but like Roger Penske, I can’t be attendance for all races.

Jones, you should really start figuring out how to do body work.

No video:(

#16

thanks guys!

had a great weekend piloting the #82 geegar mobile!

got some good drifting practice during the enduro on a corded tire (yeehaw)…fortunately indyjim was able to make up for my shenaningans with some solid driving to bring home the win!

the sprint was interesting - stuck in traffic from the drop of the green…still not sure why the slower cars were put right in front of us…oh well, still a ton of fun!

it’s always great to see the SE spec e30 crowd, such a great group of folks!!

ps- you shouldnt be dq’d for losing an exhaust unless you are found to be light after the race…

then you’re just a dirty cheater and should be dealt with accordingly

time to rig up an “exhaust eject” button on the dash!

dmwhite wrote:

Good idea, but it better just eject the muffler. We wouldn’t want to lose too much back pressure.

Its about time Dave put in a decent drive around CMP. He sucks at that place!:woohoo: J/K congrats on the win.
