I have done the 5 speed swap on my track car but do not have the supply line for the clutch master. Can I use something other than the factory part, considering it is only a supply line and has no pressure?
Clutch line question
You mean in terms of the rules or functionality?
The part #'s are here. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=1113&mospid=47309&btnr=21_0004&hg=21&fg=10
Why not just get the part from someone parting out their car?
Since it’s just the supply line, you could probably swap it out for something different, but RealOEM says it’s <$9.
I looked that picture up actually, it doesn’t look correct though. It looks as if there is a seperate fluid bottle for the clutch master which is not true. Maybe its not the right picture or something, being only 9 bucks I should just get one and see though. Good point.
RealOEM is often not perfect. It kinda has to be viewed as one more info source among many. It has my brake plumbing wrong
If you haven’t figured this out by now, the feed for the clutch master is from a nipple on the side of the brake master reservoir. On the automatic, the nipple is sealed on the end. You will need to cut off the end and run a hose (8mm ID I believe) down to the clutch master. You will also need to install an adapter into the clutch master to accept the hose. You can find the adapter here - http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/smart/more_info.cgi?pn=21-52-1-151-697-M9&catalog_description=Clutch%20Hose%20Fitting%20for%20Fluid%20Reservoir%20Hose%20to%20Master%20Cylinder%2C%20318i%20(1984-85)%2C%20318i%2Fis%2FiC%20(1991)%2C%20325%2Fe%2Fes%2Fi%2Fis%2FiC%2FiX%20(1984-91)%2C%20M3%20(1987-91)%20
Yep got the adapter. Also Ranger, real oem actually uses the exact system BMW dealerships use (I know, I work at one). So if you ever call up a parts department at a BMW store and get a BS answer, that may be why (and the fact most parts guys aren’t worth a…).
